Here is the programme for this years Peadar O Donnell Weekend which will be held in Dungloe, Co Donegal from the 17th - 19th of October

Peadar O Donnell Weekend 2008

Friday 17th October

7.30pm
Official Opening with Seamus Rodgers

8.30pm
Wrack – A Play by Peadar O Donnell

First performed in the Abbey Theatre in 1932 and run again in 1935 to great reviews, the play set on an island in west Donegal has not been seen since. Seventy three years later the Peadar O Donnell Weekend is proud to present the first showing of this play in the locality where it is set by an all-local cast. It is a story of warm comedy and tragedy that would be familiar to many coastal communities. Directed by Kevin Gallagher

10.30pm Traditional Music in the Bayview Bar

Saturday 18th October

Boat Trip to Rutland Island

A trip to Rutland in the company of Dr Wes Forsythe who has carried out an archaeological survey of the 18th century fishing station.

Recent Archaeological Surveys in the Rosses – A talk by Dr. Wes Forsythe

Dr Forsythe is a lecturer in maritime archaeology at the University of Ulster. Wes will give an overview on the different archaeological surveys that he has carried out in the Rosses over the last number of years

The Placenames of the Rosses - Talk by Dónal Mac Giolla Easpaig
Dónal Mac Giolla Easpaig is the country’s leading authority on Irish placenames. This is a unique opportunity to discover the meaning and translations of the many interesting placenames that are found in the Rosses area. Donal works in the Placenames department of the Ordnance Survey.

That old Sinner - Talk by Frank Sweeney

Frank Sweeney, a native of Annagry. Since retiring from teaching in Dublin, Frank has completed a Doctorate in Local History. His recent book “That Old Sinner - The Letterkenny and Burtonport Railway”is a superb social study of the Rosses in the late 19th century.

International Night in Beedys

This year we invite other nationalities living in the Rosses area and beyond to sample Irish cusine and music.

A Talk by Frank Connolly and A Resident of Rossport

Frank Connolly is an investigative journalist and former executive director of the Centre of Public Inquiry.
