Public Talk on Internment in Israel & Occupied Palestinian Territories
A talk with Addameer director Sahar Francis
Amnesty International Ireland invites you to a public talk by Sahar Francis at the Irish Aid Centre, O'Connell Street, Dublin, on Monday 10th November, at 7.30pm. Sahar is the director of Addameer (Arabic for "conscience"), a human rights organisation based in the Occupied Palestinian Territories who campaign for the rights of prisoners. A Palestinian-Israeli lawyer, Sahar has extensive experience of working directly in support of the victims of human rights abuses in the West Bank. Addameer are currently launching a major campaign on the Israeli policy of administrative detention (internment without charge or trial). Over 800 Palestinians, including children, are currently being held by the Israeli authorities in internment, some since 2002.
Addameer believe in creating a free and democratic society, and work in cooperation with other groups (including Amnesty International), aiming to ensure that prisoners are treated justly and with dignity. The talk will be an informative, firsthand account of the key human rights issues in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
