The Irish invented copyright laws.

When Columbcille secretly made an exact copy of his teacher's book he was ordered to hand the copy over to the teacher by a Brehon Law judge.

"Every cow owns its own calf" the judge said.

(The first ruling on copyright in history).

Columbcille went to war over this.

(The first copyright battle in history.)

He found himself exiled to Iona as a result.

The book is called "An Cathach".......meaning "The Battle".

Still on view in the Dublin national museum.

(The Cathach has pure Irish language passages in an original Irish script .Making Irish the first European language to be written down after Greek and Latin.)

We Scottish call him Columba.
