Thousands of square metres of empty commercial space in Galway

Galway, Ireland. This was filmed in November 2008. Thousands upon thousands of square metres of commercial space. All of it empty. Everybody is talking about the residential property crash while these buildings lay empty for years. Who is paying for this?
Commercial property is still seen as a sure investment by banks. Why? This is a very big elephant is dancing in the cupboard.

This is a subject that needs to be talked about. Many will argue that it is not relevant to us but it is. There are massive funds invested in commercial property in Ireland and vast amounts of these properties are sitting empty. Even more will be vacated in the new year. We will all pay for this and so will our children.I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

All around the outskirts of Cork too there's empty and half-finished housing. Seems to me the logical response is to take possession and make use of it

All throughout counties Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon housing estates thrown up in and around every small village with no regard for proper planning, design, or the environemnt now lie idle and decrepid. Stark reminders of the mindless greed and hubris of the wasted Celtic Tiger years when County Councils, governemnt, Auctioneers, developers and landowners all had their heads in the same trough. Unfortunatly for the country in general it now seems this same trough appears to be as toxic as our Pig Feed.
