It is vital to make the connection between the Lisbon Treaty Referendum and US military use of Shannon airport. The militarisation of the European Union goes hand in armoured glove with the militarisation of Western society, epitomised by NATO, so that Western elite groups, especially privilidged politicians and their business clients can continue to exploit the majority world and to gain access to an undue share of the world's resources.
Over one million US troops have passed through Shannon airport over the past 7 years, causing the deaths of over one million people in Iraq and Afghanistan. This makes the Irish people complicit in crimes against humanity.
Please attend the Peace Conference, details below at Shannon airport on 5 September and support the peace camps and peaceful protests at Shannon airport over the weekend 5/6 September, and right up to and beyond the Lisbon Treay Referendum

Well done Michael - well done Edward.

The Press Conference was an unqualified success - 17 media people were there both irish and international - Google News had 82 links to it and all the printed and electronic media covered it. With some expected 'responses' from Pat the Cope, the YES Generation and the mainstream Fianna Fail Party.
The Liberty Hall meeting ditto- we filled the room, standing room only. Excellent presentations from Joe Higgins, Mary Lou McDonald, UNITE's Jimmy Kelly and Bob Crowe and a very constructive discussion from the floor. Brid Smith from People Before Profit and UNITE chaired both events.

Now launched the No to Lisbon Campaign is organising a number of meetings around the country - we also have a new updated leaflet ready to be collected for distribution from the Campaign Office : UNITE building, 55-56 Middle Abbey Street Dublin 1. Our office phone number is 01-8727912, the campaign email info@sayno.ie and the campaign website www.sayno.ie.

Re: the Shannon Conference . We have organised a 26-seater bus leaving Dublin early on Saturday morning and returning in the evening. Fare: €20 return. 7 places left - if interested, please contact the office.

What is most noteworthy is the united action by very different political groups. Great to see that. It's clear from the way the media coverage is kicking off that all on the No side will be subjected to sustained and quite personal attack, see Patsy McGarry's piece in the Irish Times last week. This sort of thing needs to be countered.
