due to their complicitness in murdering of Colombian Indigenous

3 days ago a group from the SOCIAL AND CLIMATE JUSTICE CARAVAN visited the Canadian embassy in Brussels to seek protection for a man from Colombia who has received death treaths from Colombian Paramilitaries. The Canadian state is responsible for this due to upcoming free trade agreements as well as, along with the US, not signing the charter to protect indigenous around the world. Also Canadian mining business COSIGO RESOURCES are implicated in using these paramilitaries to obtain native lands.

Dave Bleakney of the Canadian union of postal workers entered, was nearly forcibly evicted from the building but activists from all continents of the world outside blocked the door, blocking the police action. A woman rep from the embassy came down, they talked, dave left.

This interview is what dave said upon leaving the embassy, without police harrassment this time, about his view on his countries dirty business action.

Yesterday in San Cristobel de las Casas Chiapas Mexcio there was a visit by a Canadian Governer to the city less than two weeks after a local Anti Mining Activist was assasinated for his continuing opposition to Blackfire Exploration mining company. Mariano had made various official complaints about intimidation by Blackfire employees and in fact had been detained illegally in Auguts this year but was later released. Three people have been arrested in connection with his assasination, two of whom are employees of blackfire. The state governor closed the mine this monday stating that it was for environmental reasons but noone here believes that for a minute. Mariano left four children and there is allegedly a list of ten other activists who have been threatened. Yesterday there was a demo in his honour but the visiting Canadian delegation refused to meet with the demonstrators even though this was repeatedly requested . Mariano's case has been taken up as an urgent action by Amnesty International and yesterdays demonstration was called by a friends of the earth affiliate here in chiapas www.otrosmunodos.org.mx

Canadian mining firm at centre of Mexican murder probe
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/canadian-m...2163/

Three men with links to a Canadian mining company have been charged in the killing of a Mexican activist, threatening already strained relations between the countries on the eve of a visit to the same region by Governor-General Michaëlle Jean.

A spokesman for Calgary-based Blackfire Exploration Ltd. confirmed that an employee, a former employee and a one-time company contractor were arrested in the Nov. 27 murder of Mariano Abarca Robledo, who had led local opposition against Blackfire's barite mine in Chicomuselo, Chiapas.

Mining activist's death deplorable, Jean says

Urgent Action: Stop Murders and Threats Against Mexican Activists Fighting Mining Abuses in Chiapas
http://www.miningwatch.ca/en/urgent-action-stop-murders...iapas

The night of November 27th, Mariano Abarca Roblero, an activist against mining in Chicomuselo, Chiapas, was murdered. Mr. Abarca was an important member of the community who had suffered threats, prison and violence due to his opposition to the environmentally harmful mining activities of Blackfire Exploration. Please use the draft letter below to send your own letter calling on the government of Chiapas to investigate this murder, protect all other activists, and suspend Blackfire Exploration’s mining permits.

Dear Mr. Governor:

We, the undersigned, call on you to take urgent action to investigate and punish the murderers and intellectual authors of the assassination in Chicomuselo, Chiapas of social activist and community anti-mining leader Mariano Abarca Roblero. Similarly, we call for protective measures to guarantee the safety of Orlando Velazquez who was seriously wounded at the time of the murder, his family members and all members of REMA (Mexican Network of People Affected by Mining) who have opposed the operations in the municipality of Canadian mining company Blackfire Exploration...

www.otrosmundoschiapas.com this is the correct address for the group supporting Mariano Abarco. This website contains video interviews with Abarco that are subtitled in English for anyone interested. An odd development is that the State governor's office has offered Marianos widow 3000 us dollars per month as some sort of compensation and 1500 US dollars to each of Marian's four children. These payements are reportedly life long in duration and seem to have no conditions attatched. At current exchange rates and in terms of Campasino's normal income levels these are huge sums of money. I don' t know yet wether these payments are being accepted or what they would entail but in my opinion they certainly illustrate that the State government accepts that they failed to protect Mariano...

In yesterdays 100,000+ people demo on the streets of copenhagen in CHANGE THE SYSTEM, NOT THE CLIMATE, the Danish Police swooped in and arrested a large number of people for nothing. We talk to a Japenese man who has traveled here with the SOCIAL AND CLIMATE JUSTICE CARAVAN, who was arrested with this group. He was contained on the streets for an hour when he was in the area near the black block. He was taken with 300 or 400 other people to cages in a massive warehouse where people were held for 9 hours. It is important to point out that there had not been any signs of trouble from this group and the police swooped for no reason in what can only be described as a "pre-emptive strike" to take people out of the demo. They have the authority to do this after recent changes in law under "prevention of terrorism" acts. (MP3 format 19 minutes, copyleft, please spread)
