Watch Trade Union TV's video report from Saturday's protest in Galway aginst Health cuts.
Several Hundred took to the streets of Galway to defend health services. This is part of a rolling campaign to keep the services that currently exist. Many workers from local hospitals took part as did many service users, who led the march on a slow walk from the Cathedral to University College Hospital Galway a short distance away.
Participants included patients, pensioners from local Active retirement groups, Labour Party, Socialist Party, Socialist Workers Party and people who want a decent health service. Niall Ní Bhrolcáin from the Green Party, bizarrely showed up and remained silent as calls were made for himself and all local politicians to sign a pledge against any cutbacks. TD Grealish also made an appearance as did a number of Fine Gael representatives demonstrating the importance of health in the next election.
Patients, hospital workers addressed the march in the grounds of University College Hospital Galway.
