NUCLEAR DISASTER IN DUBLIN! Radical Group Stage Fallout Drama
MEMBERS of the radical enviromental action group, Globalise Resistance, staged a "nuclear meltdown drill" in the city centre last weekend to demostrate the effects of a nuclear disaster on Dublin.
Activists gathered at the Central Bank on Dame Streeet where they sent out an invitation to Government to reassure people that the authorities would be in full control in the event of a nuclear emergency.
A model of the Sellafield nuclear power plant made from paper mache and chicken wire was wheeled onto the front plaza of the Central Bank where it "exploded" in a green cloud representing fallout from a nuclear meltdown at the controversial plant in Cumbria.
A spokesperson for the group said: "Our information leads us to believe that in the event of a nuclear disaster, many thousands of people would die within hours, and that the only emergency plan that would actually work is to shut down Sellafield".
The demostrators then march along Grafton Street to the Dail where they repeated calls for the Government to demand the immediate closure of the plant.
