The relentless drive to agglomerate control within a revamped European Union has lost none of its force, despite being pronounced clinically dead by the Irish people on June 12th in a referendum it's government could not avoid hosting. Dead set on simply ignoring the will of the people as demonstrated clearly in resounding No votes in France, Holland and Ireland, the Eurocracy continues to scheme hell-bent on manipulating its desired outcome. June 12th was a victory of the people over profit, but the battle has only just begun. Will democracy prevail? Or will that historic 'No' vote prove to be democracy's last gasp? Make no mistake: whatever you understand 'democracy' to be, it is at stake here. But here's the rub: there are some amongst us who invert 'democracy' and all nominally social ideals into their corrupted opposites. Why is that? Are we not all singing from the same hymn-sheet? The letter below was sent recently today to all Irish Deputies (MPs) and Senators in connection with the proposal to re-run the Lisbon Referendum in order to get a different result. It is accompanied by copies of the two submissions made to the Oireachtas (the Irish National Parliament) Sub-Committee on Ireland's Future in the EU by Anthony Coughlan on behalf of the National Platform Research and Information Centre, of which Coughlan is Secretary. read full story / add a comment

Brian Crowley MEP: With all respect, Mr. President, you will not tell me what the Irish think. As an Irishman, I know it best. President Vaclav Klaus: I do not speculate about what the Irish think. I state the only measurable data which were proved by the referendum... ... If Mr. Crowley speaks of an insult to the Irish people, then I must say that the biggest insult to the Irish people is not to accept the result of the Irish referendum. In Ireland I met somebody who represents a majority in his country. You, Mr. Crowley, represent a view which is in minority in Ireland. This article looks at the EU intervention in Chad and argues that it is driven by the desire of the French government to shore up a dictator. The EU operation, which includes some 400 Irish troops, is essentially a fig leaf for the promotion of the foreign policy interests of the French state. The Oireachtas voted the Commission over €5 million to enable it do its job of informing citizens what the Lisbon referendum was about. Rarely can public money have been spent to such ill effect. The Commission spent €2.7 on media advertising. It paid An Post €1 million to deliver 2.2 million information handbooks to households. In the circumstances it was a democratic miracle that the majority of Irish voters rejected the proposal to amend the Irish Constitution. If the Commission had done the job it was statutorily required to do, the No-side majority would almost certainly have been much larger, for people would have learned of the constitutional revolution which Lisbon proposed, instead of being kept in ignorance of it. read full story / add a comment

The EU 'presidents' and prime ministers keep betraying the 490 million people in the 27 EU countries. To avoid another defeat, the managers of the EU decided not to hold any referenda at all, but the referendum in Ireland could not be avoided. Anti Globalisation protestors took to Government buildings to highlight the WTO impact on Irish farming, workers and human rights and fisheries. Each group was divided and coralled into three different sections in a state move to institutionalise supposed differences in those who articulated a NON in the Lisbon Treaty referendum. read full story / add a comment

Now in the aftermath of a No vote the real reasons for the treaty are increasingly being made public despite the difficulty in getting these topics on the agenda even now as the Irish government 'reflects'. The rejection of the treaty has caused a headache for those politicians who favour EU unification, a unified EU military and further free trade liberalization. The French presidency is attempting to push through as much as possible on militarisation without full ratification. Apparently it was true that french white papers on defence were held over until after our referendum. Little good it did them. One of Sarkozy's problems is that military action undertaken by sub-groups of EU states without the need of agreement from all states has been scuppered by the Irish No as 'Structured co-operation' in Article 48 would have allowed for this and an EU military budget but Nice does not. read full story / add a comment

So far Ireland has been the only one of the 27 EU-states to demonstrate an independent court decision in favour of democracy and the rule of law [1, 2]. In the new situation brought about by the EU-leaders’ rejection of Ireland’s decision [3, 4, 5], Ireland is again tested as the last fortress of democracy within the EU. This test is on whether the official decision on Lisbon arrived at on June 12, 2008 would enter into force, or the constitutional foundations of Ireland, similarly to the other 26 states, would be bent or circumvented to serve the interests of foreign political forces [2]? The questions and the proposition of this article are meant to provide a starting point for further legal considerations, building on the assumption that an independent court still exists to protect the constitution, the rule of law and democracy in Ireland. read full story / add a comment

How much legitimacy can Mr. Sarkozy assume in a non-existent role called ‘EU President’, under the current conditions, when the Lisbon Treaty meant to create such presidency has already been legally rejected, and the overall implementation process should have been revoked by now [1, 2]? How much legitimacy can be assumed for a politician who openly contradicted the decision of his own electorate [3, 4, 5] in order to seize power over the rest of the half billion who have never been and never will be his electorate [6]? How much credibility can be granted to a ‘president’ who helped organising the scheme [5] to suppress the opinion of the rest of Europe thus prevented the democratic constitutionalisation process in the region he is supposedly the ‘president’ of? read full story / add a comment |
