clare / anti-war / imperialism / news report Friday June 27, 2003 15:29 by Tim Hourigan   text 4 comments (last - monday july 07, 2003 15:33)
On June 3rd I received a letter from Aer Rianta's lawyers (Aurthur Cox) threatening me with imprisonment if I attend further demos at Shannon airport. Shortly afterwards, Commandant Ed Horgan and fellow planespotter and peacecamper Conor Cregan received identical threats.

see my reply to this at.
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=51020&search_text=trespass

this week I got another letter, not answering my questions but repeating over and over the same threat. HERE is my reply which I will hand deliver to Aurthur Cox's offices tomorrow during Grassroots.

They don't want to debate the war, now they want to stifle protest. And these are the people who tell us they're safeguarding democracy. read full story / add a comment

6 people have been arrested at the anti-war demo in shannon. Cops, including some in riot gear, blocked access to the airport, a sit down protest ensued, leading to the arrests, which were quite forceful. Included among the arrestees are one minor (aged 13) and 2 or 3 parents, leaving some toddlers on their own. The main body of the protest is now outside Shannon Garda Station, 1 man has been released and the police say that the rest will be released by 6.30pm read full story / add a comment

At 1pm they will be joined by banned Cork anti-war activists who will remain in situ for the duration of the demonstration in Shannon. Honk your horn as you pass! In the early hours of Monday 3 February, five members of the pacifist Catholic Worker Movement ( 2 ) cut their way into Shannon Airport ( 2 ). The peace activists poured human blood on the runway that has been servicing U.S. military flights, troop and munition deployments to U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Qatar. They constructed a shrine on the runway to Iraqi children killed and threatened by U.S./British bombardment and sanctions. read full story / add a comment

The biggest Protest yet against the US Military use of Shannon Airport took place on Saturday 12th October. After a pretty standard protest – (some pushing and shoving at the entrance to the airport, speeches, an open mic, a funny standoff between a group of public representatives and the Police, music, chanting, a die-in) – a number of activists took down the fence marking the airport perimeter and initiated a mass Trespass on the grass beside a runway. read full story / add a comment
