Our European Commissioner was ''doorstepped '' and asked about her current pension/s in the light of the waiver of pension entitlements in the case of a retiring banker ... With an overly hasty riposte she said to the reporter "That is a question that I have refused to comment on up to now and I continue to refuse to comment on it.'' The pique was palpable , and the affront visible .. she then canceled an arranged interview with RTE . ..but she is not alone .. and FG and Labour also have their formidable pension earners while still working.. and some ( teachers ) .. are they still blocking the appointment of a full time pensionable locum tenens ? - ''subs '' while they are in politics..and accruing more years for their teacher's pension also.. read full story / add a comment

The Curia has protected the Pope with a venal beguile The defence of their errant priests and bishops is to launch an attack of a tripartite nature ; the church as victim; the blame lies with the victims; the problem was one of incipient homosexuality . The three factors were advanced separately over the past 10 days by the pope and 2 different theologians . Not just ordinary Curia sycophants , but doctrinaire heavy hitters. read full story / add a comment

In his latest column for the New Statesman, John Pilger describes the increasing American war front across the world: from Afghanistan to Africa and Latin America. This is the Third World War in all but name, waged by the only aggressive "ism" that denies it is an ideology and threatened not by introverted tribesmen in faraway places but by the anti-war instincts of its own citizens. read full story / add a comment ![]()

St Patrick’s Day saw Galway Shell to Sea organise a city-wide day of action and outreach. Massive crowds flocked to the city for the culmination of the Galway St. Patrick’s week festival and parade. The all-Ireland Irish language marathon “Rith 2010” also finished in the city centre on the same day. Given all this, Galway S2S felt such an opportunity was not to be missed to inform people about the plight of Rossport and the war Shell, Statoil and Vermillion Oil are waging against its residents with full support of the Irish State. The abhorrent jailing of Pat O’ Donnell was much publicised also. Over 400 copies of the excellent “Someday Independent” were distributed, along with copies of the Afri documents, DVDs and more. 6 banners were hung throughout the city’s busiest intersections, including directly over the parade route. read full story / add a comment ![]()

So you are urgently in need of an Irish passport? Well never fear. Forget the queues at the passport office in Molesworth St, Dublin. Thanks to the actions of the Galway Alliance Against War today, Wednesday 24th March, a new Israeli Consulate was set up on Galway’s Shop Street. And as everyone knows, if you need an Irish passport in a hurry then just go to the Israelis and especially to Mossad. Brandishing the Star of David flag GAAW members were handing out fake Irish passports to anyone who wanted one. No questions asked. And if you had your own Irish passport handy the same people were offering 5000 Israeli shekels to be allowed to clone it. All in defence of the Israeli state, don’t you know.? read full story / add a comment ![]()

Both Shia communities In Iran and Iraq can see that ‘’ the enemy of my enemy is also my friend ‘’ and in this regard they will find common ground in their distrust of the West and Israel with possibly dreadful consequences . So while it suited the US to have Iran and Iraq locked in a decade of war , the tables are perversely reversed now . Mission Accomplished ? The world is in a more parlous state after G.W Bush's military folly read full story / add a comment |
