Internationally, police officers who mutilate or kill people on duty usually get off scot free, many times the cases not even making the news. The Swiss internet site PigBrother.info deals with such cases and the police weapons involved. Though often labelled "less lethal" and claimed to be "harmless", actually many proved to be fatal, not to mention lots of them being banned in war by e.g. the Geneva Convention but nevertheless frequently used by policeforces worldwide (like e.g. Dum Dum Bullets that a.o. killed Jean Charles de Menezes, but also the so called "Tear Gas").

An Irish farmer has used the Ryder Cup and the endless streams of choppered in VIP's to make a general point on peace. The farmer describes how 'as the rich and powerful politicians chopper their way to the Ryder Cup, they might have to avert their gaze from my little farm next door.' Why? Because on this small area of farm land beside the K-Club venue he has made a huge CND style peace symbol encircled with a 'peace on earth' slogan. Weird or what? Photos are at the following link. read full story / add a comment

AN animal welfare charity that rehomes abandoned greyhounds for Bord na gCon has been told to pick up a huge tab after the board said it has no more money to give them.

Gina Hetherington of PAWS in Sallins, Co Kildare, says she has been left reeling by the news that the Irish Greyhound Board's 2006 fund for retired dogs, which stands at €250,000, is apparently gone - despite being just four months into the year.

The charity, which rescues abandoned greyhounds from pounds, may now have to find up to €145,000 to cover veterinary bills, kennel boarding fees and transport costs or else leave the unwanted dogs to their grisly fate. read full story / add a comment

There was an excellent response from members of the public and passers by to a protest in support of Joanne Delaney that took place outside the new Dunnes Stores in Maynooth in the Manor Mills Shopping Centre. The Mayor of Kildare Cllr. John McGinley came along to support the protest. In a shift in tactics security threatened to call the Gardaí on protestors. The protest was held by members of the Labour Party in NUI Maynooth and Maynooth town.

Needless to say this attempt to scare away the protestors was ignored. read full story / add a comment
