Today (Thursday) there is a vote of students in UL on fees. It arose from a proposal by the chairperson of UL Fianna Fail to make students vote on what kind of fees we want – which would have assisted the Student's Union to 'lobby' for that specific type of fees, instead of fighting to defeat all forms of fees. Student opposition, including from the UL branch of F.E.E. succeeded in getting a ‘no fees’ option 4 included, which reads: “I am opposed to alternatives to exchequer-funded third level tuition fees”,

UL F.E.E. have been the only ones campaigning on the vote, with everyone else focused on the SU officers elections. F.E.E. has been calling for a clear, "No to fees" vote - putting No Fees as your 'number 1' vote and not giving any vote, even a second preference, to the other pro-fees options. read full story / add a comment

“ This is not about a company that's in trouble. This is about greed, corporate greed. They're going to Poland because apparently they can make an extra 3%”
- Sacked Dell Worker (quoted in Associated Press)

Like a vulture, having ripped profit out of its workers in Limerick, Dell now wants to go exploit workers elsewhere.

Dell must not be allowed get away with this robbery. This Government can't be trusted to do anything to stop this crisis. Workers in Dell and throughout the Mid West must act to defend the 10,000 jobs at stake.

On Thursday, just after 10.30am, Limerick’s Congolese community along with Irish friends and supporters marched from Arthur’s Quay in the city centre, up O’Connell St., to O’Connell Avenue. There, a memorandum to the Irish Government and the International Community was read, calling their attention to the ongoing tragedy taking place in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It noted that over the last decade the world has allowed the deaths of 5 million people in Congo, and that in the eastern part of the country sexual abuse of women, forced recruitment of child soldiers and displacement from villages and homes are once again part of everyday life. read full story / add a comment
