A paper published last year claimed to debunk the "myth" of man the hunter, arguing that women play an "instrumental role" in hunting in traditional societies. The only problem is that the paper appears to be flawed.

Michael O'Dea's new poetry collection 'The Sound of Water Searching' for Dublin Launch

O'Dea's first full collection since 2003 is to be launched in Drop Dead Twice on Francs St. on Friday, 25th March at 9.000pm.

Michael O'Dea may be familiar through his blog, Poetry and Miscellaneous Yap, but he has not published a full collection since Turn Your Head (Dedalus Press, 2003). A bilingual chapbook Felos aínda serra was published by Amastra-n-gallar in Galicia, Spain in 2005. This new collection, The Sound of Water Searching is, in his words, the best of the blog which has been in existence since 2007.

"From personal poems that draw on "the emptied out treasure-chests of childhood" to reflections on the work of Elaine Leigh, John Minihan, Mick O'Dea and others, Michael O'Dea is a poet interested in the ways that memory, experience, and meditation inform the life of the poet. The poems gathered in The Sound of Water Searching give voice to his ceaseless commitment to the artistic process: a "beautiful odyssey" that takes us from Dublin to Galicia and beyond." runs the blurb by Philip Coleman of Trinity College Dublin.

The launching will take place in Drop Dead Twice on Dublin's Francis St at 9.00pm, Friday, 25th March. Guest on the night will be poet, playwright Vincent Woods who will launch the collection. The entertainment won't stop there, however, as the event will lead into the popular monthly Upstairs Sessions, a night of performances that, depending on the night, may vary from music to acrobatics, dance to comedy.
