You wouldn't run schools without teachers. But the CofE tries to run churches without vicars. If new Archbishop Sarah Mullally has any sense she'll stamp out the church's reliance on volunteers, says Joanna Gray.

Boots Loots Workers Pay

category antrim | worker & community struggles and protests | event notice author Wednesday September 28, 2011 14:27author by PRO - SIPTU Report this post to the editors

Teri Cregan
SIPTU

Boots workers have been left with no option but to hold a protest in response to their premium pay being reduced and have organised a day of action outside the companies store in Donegall Place, Belfast on Saturday 8th October from 12 til 2pm. We ask you to come along and show your support for their demands to have basic terms and conditions of employment re-instated.
boots_protest.jpg

We do not understand the decision by Boots to lower premium pay and slash terms and conditions; after all it’s the hard work, professionalism and loyalty of Boots workers that has helped the company earn over £1billion in profits last year. A highly profitable company should be rewarding their workers, not punishing them.

Working alongside their union SIPTU, they are taking a stand and campaigning to reverse this ruthless decision by Boots. We ask you the public to assist us, by supporting the days of action, signing our online petition at www.petitiononline.com/bootloot/petition.html and crucially registering your complaint with senior management in Boots.

In these tough economic times employers are increasingly trying to erode rights in the workplace that were hard fought for, we cannot allow this to happen. If a highly profitable company like Boots can get away with this, you can expect other unscrupulous employers to follow suit. Their fight is your fight. Let us stand together.
