A Wake For Irish Sovereignty

category dublin | anti-capitalism | event notice author Friday June 01, 2012 18:04author by James Connolly Soviet Report this post to the editors

A chairde, tonight, in Ned Keenan's Comedy Club, we're having a wake for Irish sovereignty. .

And, in the grand old tradition of Irish wakes, we're going to have a hell of a party. So, let's drink ourselves stupid, cry into our beer, and then set about waking up the Phoenix again. Anyone who wants to have their say will have the stage to do so. We will have a completely open mic. Democracy does not exist in Ireland, all that exists is the fear of the herd. We need to start building our own democratic forums.

I forgot to mention its free in - who charges for a wake? And to lead us in our mourning, will will have two of the best comedians in Ireland - Gordon Rochford and Abie Philbin Bowman.

Is this a fitting response to the turkeys voting for a Merry Axemass?

Surely a good sleep would be more appropriate? That way we might even get into 'guvirmint', of the hoors by the hoors for the hoors.

"So, let's drink ourselves stupid.."

Clearly we're already stupid!!

Yes, I think, in general, wakes are a good thing, and we had a good one last Friday. It's true that the 26 county statelet never really had sovereignty, and, I for one, would not mourn it's demise. What we were really mourning is the passing of any sense of national pride and honour from the psyche of the majority of Irish people. As far as they are concerned, Ireland is merely another commodity to be sold and resold, for the best price going. "Selling Ireland," is their only goal.

But, a wake is a good thing, as it allows us to express our emotions, and gives us the courage to pick up the pieces and start again. Most important of all, it let's us know that we are not alone.
