Israeli Deputy ambassador advises :counter opponents of Israel with sex smears and mossad accusations

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Tuesday June 19, 2012 13:37author by JoeMc Report this post to the editors

The Irish Times reported last week that Israel's Deputy Ambassador to Ireland, Nurit Tinari-Modai, is advocating a campaign of intimidation, smears and falsification against Israeli human rights activists who campaign in solidarity with Palestinians . Nurit Tinari-Modai suggests that a good way of undermining opponents of Zionism is to insinuate that "sexual identity problems" motivates those who protest the treatment oif Palestinians .
“Israel’s Channel 10 News reported that Nurit Tinari Modai, who is cultural officer at the embassy and is married to ambassador Boaz Modai, advised that the foreign ministry should adopt a new strategy in which it would “try to hit [the activists’] soft underbellies .”

Nurit Tinari-Modai, wrote in an email leaked to Channel 10 News that sex smears, might “cause embarrassment for activists' friends in Israel and their family” and "sow suspicion among non-Israeli activists" . The Times quoted Tinari-Modai saying that it would be a good idea to convince people that anti-zionists " may actually be working on behalf of Mossad” (the Israeli intelligence agency).”

The sex predator smears and Mossad agent accusations that appeared against Wikileaks’ founder Julian Assange in 2010 are exactly the type of dirty tricks that Ms. Tinari-Modai proposed for dealing with opponents of Israel.

Julian Assange could be forcibly removed to Sweden as early as June 28. Under Swedish law he can be detained, and effectively held incommunicado, for months, even before any charges are brought against him .While held in Sweden it is expected that the US authorities will attempt to render the founder of Wikileaks to an American high security prison . The Obama administration has already prepared a secret Grand Jury indictment against Assange on charges of espionage because of WikiLeaks’ release of documents that exposed the war crimes of the US and other countries. The trumped up nature of the “sex pervert” charges leveled against Assange in the courts and through the media have been exposed on several occasions see this for example : http://www.wsws.org/articles/2010/nov2010/assa-n19.shtml

Western medias were selective in reproducing cables leaked by Wikileaks in 2010 . Newspapers such as the NYT and the Guardian gave prominent coverage to cables whose contents could be used to bolster US/ Israel in its confrontation with Iran . The NYT even boasted about how it had prepared its coverage of released cables with officials from the Obama administration. This Israel-biased reporting was then used by Assange’s enemies to insinuate that he was a Mossad agent with many such accusations made over the internet . Assange replied to those who made such accusations in this interview :

There has been speculation that you have the support of George Soros and Israeli intelligence service Mossad. Where do you think this is coming from?

(It is common) in the US to allege George Soros is behind everything. To be fair, the only vaguely conspiratorial things that George Soros has been behind is some of the 'Colour Revolutions' in Eastern Europe about five or six years ago that I know about.

As for Mossad, in the release of "Cablegate" material, there is no one spared. If you look closely, what has happened is that the New York Times as a media organisation has to be quite careful not to criticise Israel too much. So, if you look at the coverage in English that is coming out you will see little that is critical of Israeli behaviour and a lot critical of Iran, for example. That is not a true reflection of the "Cablegate" material. There is information in there that is critical of most countries - certainly including Israel.

There is a bias towards material that is critical of Iran because the information comes from US embassies and US diplomats reporting back to Washington. So, it does follow Washington's agenda in terms of what US diplomats and political officers are looking to report and what they do report back to Washington.
