On Thursday morning the belgian police raided a squat and arrested and deported over thirty people. Squatting is legal in Brussels and police are supposed to give 30 days eviction notice to squatters. (full story)

Ireland is continuing to allow facilities to US warplanes at Shannon, and in doing so is participating in the so-called 'War on Terror'. This action is illegal without a DАil vote. Any Irish citizen can challenge this in the Irish Courts. (full story)

I'm a long way from home at the moment and I have to say that it is indymendia.ie that is keeping me sane. Just as an example, a friend living in england emailed me one night saying she'd heard on the bbc news that an Irishwoman had been shot in Jenin. (Stupidly) I tried the mainstream media first - but no mention of a name or any details, so I check indymedia.ie and find an interview with Caoimhe from her hospital bed - (although my heart certainly goes out to the family of Ian Hook who was killed by the IDF that day while working for the UN relief and works agency in Jenin)

The ISN has not decided to boycott or ignore Indymedia. I, personally, dont contribute often because I find little willingness to actually discuss political developments and an eagerness to make attacks on contributions that are often nothing to do with the given subject matter. I visit the site about twice a week to see if there are any planned events that I would be interested in attending.

BTW I think it could be a really good site if it decided to only allow news items, notification of events and political arguments without the incessant slagging. For example, NI, where IMC could be a forum amongst progressives to debate, all you get is boring.

Indymedia ireland is a data tree of public information and such consists of material intended to be in the public domain.
Thus the tree should be kept for cultural, social and historical purposes in the public domain.
This is a year´s worth of data tree rant, wise words, foolish words, blaa blaa.
Record it.
and ensure it isn´t "stolen" from the public domain, as much now as always.

they took a while to get a Nice site up to replace the national site loss, but you see, the evolving revolution is very safe and survives every christmas period coup d´etat or debt non payment.
i leave the list as a suggestion to all interested in IMC éire, there is never a reason why an IMC should "die". Newswires aren´t to be judged for a one week period, we know that.
I think about it, how many one week periods have been swamped with varying contribution and party bias, = lots, and we weather them all, for the first time I find myself writing of Isreal, anyone notice I always avoided it before?

I'm still here - and I know that other Green Party members are using the site. I'm not very active at the moment because, as you may have notices, it's the Christmas holidays.

Whoever is attacking indymedia.ie is way off. Of course the Irish IMC could do more and there's always room for improvement. But having said that IMC Ireland has had an excellent first year and will only grow and get better.

Like any other volunteer group we will always have ups and downs as the time and energy that people can give to the project increases and decreases. However the bottom line is that people get value from the site (which is why they keep coming back) and so we are filling a demand, albeit outside of the market.

Indymedia is a collective endeavour. Like any co-operative venture if you use it you should contribute to it in some way. However using it and not contributing is grand too. What stinks is using Indymedia while at the same time knocking and attacking it and those who spend their time and energy to make it possible. If there's something you don't like then please get involved and work to change it.

mr election, i dunno where u got ur info that SP, SWP and ISN members have 'left' the site. I'm still here, have been from day one. Just cos I don't feel the need to contribute to every thread doesnt mean I don't come on here. As for the others, well I know certain other members of the party are still regulars here. can't speak for ISN and SWP but judging by the tone of some comments, I think that SWPers are still posting. I think that IMCers should be aware that SWP, SP and ISN members have all left indymedia. They left because Indymedia is not a good alternative news website. Memebrs of organisations dont get basic respect, they get sectarian hatred and rants. I think there should be good deabte between different groups not the ranting that has been thrown at SP, ISN and SWP members.

IMCers sit up and listen, YOUR WEBSITE IS DIEING!

as none of the regular contributors and posters have seen fit to discuss it with each other (to my knowledge) and I´m a regular commentator / poster.

If the site goes down due to non-payment of bills then it will probably come back on line soon after.

The indymedia family has survived much since it´s inception years ago during Seattle.

Perhaps Irish resident readers need to be reminded of some of the attacks suffered by indymedia over the years..

The most serious attack was made by the FBI during the Quebec conference, the first time Bush2 attended a world capitalist conference.
Agents of the FBI acting out of jurisdiction closed the Quebec IMC.

Earlier this year, for still uncertain reasons Swedish indymedia went off line for four days.
23/10- 27/10.
This was during the Moscow gas incident.
Attentive readers will maybe recall that I
assisted in news coverage of that event commenting on the sad loss of trusted correspodents in Sweden.

French indymedia also has had problems over the years, but finally this year the URL loss seems to be made up for and French indymedia activism is now online again hosted by Nice.

Prague indymedia also has suffered problems in the past.
So essentially don´t worry.
In the past other indymedia centres have suggested using Ireland as a safe resource, I recall various Canadian IMC thought to do so, so if for any reason Ireland fails, there are many othewr back-ups.

The evolving revolution is very very safe.

the site has been under attack recently, someone is posting the lie that the site is going down. It is just taking advantage of the fact that the indymedia people are probably at home with their families getting real-space time.

indymedia.ie is alive and will continue until total revolution and collapse of the state occurs.

Real question: can we wait that long?:-)
