We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Saddam could go without firing a shot.

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday January 17, 2003 12:42author by Sabrina Report this post to the editors

THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE KILLING OF INNOCENTS

Saudi Arabia is reported to be behind the plot which proposes encouraging Iraqi generals to overthrow Saddam and his inner circle.

The aim is to avoid a United States-led war with Iraq which could spark other wars in the region.

Now if the US is honest about its intentions for the war - that is to get rid of Saddam - then it should support the Saudi plan. And no one has to get hurt on either side.

It's possible that Saddam may take the Idi Amin retirement option in Saudi (Idi's still there and doing fine)...a surrender is war aims achieved.

As any decent bank robber will tell you the best use of a weapon in an armed robbery is when it's not fired!
Resist violence and exploitation

The only people who have the right to decide who the president of Iraq is, is the Iraqi people. The only people who have the right to control the natural resources of Iraq is the Iraqi people. The new version of colonialism been introduced by Bush (whose own election is open to question, he did not recieve a majority of the popular vote) and his junior partners in Europe must be resisted.
