The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones
We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

So apparently daubing bit of paint is now a higher crime than opening bay doors and carpet bombing men women and children. Yay for Irish Justice, its a shining example of the nature of our system.
I propose that Eoin's fine of €1,000 is compensated by people who support his cause.
Maybe Indymedia could put up a seperate front page posting giving an account no. for him or something. I would certainly be prepared to contribute. He should not have to fork out this cash alone.
that oin does not intend to pay the fine and is appealing the sentence and that he would rather go to jail than pay up.
Sadly Dubsky got off very light considering what he did. However, I do respect our criminal justice system, unlike the vandals and thugs that became attracted to the Shannon peace camp caravan. Hopefully if he does appeal, he will not get any reduction in his sentence.
Criminal damage is wrong and nothing justifys what this lamp did. Eoin was the first to disgrace the anti-war movement.
Opposing the U.S. war machine in Ireland is now a crime, while the real criminals, the war makers, including Provo ally, Peter King, go free.
I am against the war. I am a true peaceful protestor. I don't want thugs to hijack a peaceful protest and commit crime. If you live in this country and you think criminal damage should be allowed, then start a political party, get elected, change the law and allow criminal damage. It's a simple as that. If you are right, and we are wrong, then it will be very easy for you to get elected. In fact you will probably get a landslide. Then on the other hand .....
many people ,perhaps terry perhaps not, support the actions of the "thugs",myself included-the law is not a thing of perfection and i believe it rarely punishes true crime and all to frequently punishes the innocent.be objective-where is the biggest/worst crime?
your opinion that actions such as sabotage hijack the "anti war movement" must be based on an idea of a cohesive agreement between an organised group of members-which does not exist-the rift is only as real as the perceived unity!!
Thank you for your continued support. I'll post new news article reflecting on my experience today, the trial and what may happen next.
To Ammanda: There's no need to achange the law (for this opurpose anyway). The law as it stands would, if applied correctly, allow the sort of action Eoin took. He committed damage to the plane but not Criminal damage - what he did was neccessary and reasonable in the circumstances.
If you want the full legal argument I sugest you look at the notes of Eoins trial on the link given
Eoin was hard done by today.
We still have no action on serious crimes committed by elected officials in allowing illegal military use of the airport.
Whereas, Eoin had lawful excuse for his actions, this was ignored by the judge.
The government has no legal excuse for their actions, and they damn well know it.
however it is a different judge ignoring them,,, the kept media.
Interesting to note that Eoin's bail conditions for the past five months prevented him from coming within five miles of the airport.
All of a sudden he is now not allowed within the county of Clare.
This escalation in the perceived threat he poses to the government facade is very substantial.
Others will continue to monitor and report to the Irish people, what is going on at Shannon airport.
(of course people will call this "spying" when we stand in public areas, taking photos of things visible to the public and telling the truth)
Clare is now off limits to Eoin Dubsky,
Mary Kelly, Deirdre Clancy, Ciaron O Reilly, Damian Moran, Nuin Dunlop and Karen Fallon.
Yet, the 101st Airborne are welcome with open cash registers...
long live our Banana Republic...
How the hell do you get banned from a county? Where are the border gardai? Do we not have freedom in this country? This is insane!
Eoin, you are a great man and I am proud that you are standing up for such a great cause.
To Amanda and co.: It is perfectly legitimate to damage the property of an aggressor nation to prevent war. Otherwise you are saying that the IRA were wrong to damage property during the War of Independence, that the Freedom fighters throughout Europe were wrong to attack the infrastructure that was supporting the Nazis... the list goes on. It is called Direct Action. Property can be replaced or fixed. People can't.
Shane :-)
