The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

offsite link Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

Fight Fascism on the Net

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday March 27, 2003 21:29author by Peter Report this post to the editors

Fight pro-war activists everywhere on the net

I think that our protest against this war should be done through every possible media and means. There is a site, filled with pro-war people mainly from the US, advocating their views. I think that whoever wants to raise his/her voice against this kind of fascism should visit forums like that and counter-balance their dangerous pro-war views. The link for the site that I'm talking about can be found at:

I believe it would be better to just ignore that site. You'll only be banging your head against the wall. Life is too precious.

why put ones energy into battling with those who are entrenched. do something positive instead. and to be honest reading the sort of stuff i'd expect to read if i checked it out would drive me nuts. so censor oneself from the facists, or whatever they are, and build, be positve, and bring regime change at home.

hydrogen.

the person who agressively advocates the war (which will result in a new government probably as bad as the last e.g afganistan) or the person who agressively advocates against the war (which will result in the continued reign of madaS and the death of the iraqi's who opposed him in this war)???

Be careful how you choose your words as facists is a very particular term that does not seem appropriate for either of the above. Imperialist maybe but facist, never (Although they do have the Secret Service=SS)

I do not possess a monopoly on wisdom, so I am grateful when others are kind enough to offer a contribution to my understanding. For example, I am grateful to those who explain to me why we should attack Iraq. I simply don't yet understand their reasons. I am, however, grateful for their patience.

Genuine dialogue implies a genuine willingness to change.

If I fail to understand the reasons of others, I blame myself and press their kindness further until either I do, or we discover the root of our misunderstanding.

Now, some people are busy. They may not have time to share. I accept this.

But in the same way, I am at liberty to pass over in silence those whose contributions are less interesting to me

There are thousands of such sites. The majority, as I found out when I posted some (moderate and polite) criticism of americans going on about "freedom" when millions in the far east work in virtual slavery for US companies to support "freedom" in the US itself, are moderated and dissenting voices are silenced within minutes. They will allow some badly written extreme-left or pro-islamic fundamantalism points to remain on the boards, as if in a counterpoint to their own right wing views.

Try posting a well-thought out arguement or cite history etc and the post is likely to be deleted.

In short, you would be wasting your sweet time.
