![]() E-mail protests needed NOW! PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY Flood TCD and the Phil with protest e-mails. URGENT: AFA Alert: The Philosophical Society in Trinity College Dublin have announced that they have invited the fascist Jφrg Haider, of the far right Austrian Freedom Party, to speak at a debate in the college on Thursday 10th April. The meeting is scheduled to be held in the Graduate Memorial Building in TCD at 7.30pm tomorrow night. The short notice is obviously an attempt to prevent protest against the visit. AFA is asking people to send messages opposing the Haiders invitation to the President of the Philosophical Society and to Trinity College at the contact points below. Also listed as speakers at the debate are Ruairi Quinn, former leader of the Labour Party, and Bernard Durkan of Fine Gael. Since they appear willing to share a platform with a fascist they are worthy of questioning e-mails at ruairi.quinn@oireachtas.irlgov.ie and bernard.durkan@oireachtas.irlgov.ie IT IS IMPORTANT THAT MESSAGES ARE SENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Phone/Fax: The Chairperson of the Phil is known as the President, here are his details Trinity College Provost In November 2002 the Historical Society in TCD were refused permission to invite the holocaust revisionist David Irving to a debate in the college. At the time College Security issued the following statement. "A visit to College by Mr. Irving a number of years ago was cancelled for security and safety reasons. While I am sure that the Historical Society and the vast majority of the college community would act in a responsible manner during this proposed visit, it is well known that there are various elements within and outside College who would use every means at their disposal to disrupt the visit. I have to take into account the safety of every person on campus plus the security and care of College buildings and property. On these grounds, I regret to say, I would not be in favour of this visit taking place." This point you may wish to include in your letter to TCD, as to why they are permitting Haider to attend now. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Some background on Haider: http://news.yahoo.com/fc?tmpl=fc&cid=34&in=world&cat=austria ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Anti Fascist Action Ireland E-mail: afa@ireland.com ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Previous thread on this topic: |
