The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

Is the era of cheap internet surveys over? A new paper demonstrates that AIs can now be "trivially programmed" to answer online surveys in ways that are essentially indistinguishable from humans.

We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

The Good Bus website now up and running - please contribute as much as possible!

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday May 08, 2003 14:15author by someone from the Good Bus - the Good Busauthor email thegoodbus at yahoo dot co dot uk Report this post to the editors

Small bit of news - the Good Bus people have erected a website.

OK after the meeting last night (thanks to all who came) I've set up a very, very rough and dirty website for the Good Bus.

Go to the site at

http://www.geocities.com/thegoodbus

As you'll see its a bare bones. But fuck it.

Its just going to be used primarily as a site for information with links to other places. If you have any links you think would be of use to us, then PLEASE get in touch and we will stick a link on the site.

That email address again in case you dont know it: thegoodbus@yahoo.co.uk

The site will be updated constantly in the coming weeks so keep checking back for fresh meat.

Nice one.

Sorry for the over-reaction there (it's that damn song...) I'm serious though about getting in touch, getting involved, we want everyone who's coming to participate any way they can in helping, is a team effort and should be great : )

Leaving 25th May, Back by 6th June. Should give us time to get our bearings, get to know each other and be part of the protest village being built during the run up.

A lot of people would be interested in knowing what the whole anti-globalism thing is about. Would make an interesting program.

I dont have the exact dates but I think its roughly leaving on the 26th and coming back on the 4th or 5th, but dont quote me on that.

The reason for the extended trip is to help set up the camps for other groups; to lessen the chances of being stopped at the border; and to take a couple of days to unwind, relax, and come down after a large scale protest.

There are many details that have been worked out but have not yet been put on the site - the site was only raised this morning (after saying they would do it late last night in Conways) by one person so credit where credit is due!

The Good Bus is hoping to cost around $225 or so. That should be a Euro symbol but I cant get it to work for some reason.

Were there any other questions to answer.. should go back and check the post...

To be honest I'm doing exams right now and have not been involved, there's lots of people working on this. But we have a bus sorted and are still looking for cheaper options.

Jeez, we try and do something good for you people and this is the thanks we get.... spas : )

Angela if you're so worried, get in touch and give them a hand organising and fundraising, we're leaving on the 25th.

Seriously, do you have any bus details yet? With 3 weeks to go are you leading us up the garden path with 'thegoodbus' and the dead links on the website or is there actually a bus? How much? When?
