Yesterday in the Dail Bertie asked Joe why he had called protestors Virtual Warriors. Mr Ahern said:" Ah Joe, they were trying to pull down the fence and there you were, badmouthing them. You didnt even buy them a pint."

As Mr Higgins spluttered in an incomphrehensible Kerry dialect, Mr Ahern went on to say: "Your propaganda chief Lord Haugh Haugh implied the guards might fire into the crowd, sure you knew well that would not happen".

As for the report above re: Rumsfeld, this is just more proof that indymedia is nothing more than a hard left rantpage dressing itself up as 'journalism'. Rumsfeld NEVER said that WMD may 'never have been' there. He said they may have been destroyed before the war. These are two very different things. Imagine a 'news' site that can't even get this much right.

But then, the chances of indymedia making even the tiniest impression in this or any other country are precisely nil.

I walked out of an address by one of the founding fathers of the Autonomedia collective. Now as you might well know Autonmedia/slash are a NYC based media and autonomy (anarchism) site and network, they amongst other things published versions of TAZ. Anyway I walked out, because their team decided to address Barcelona through the funding of the CCCB OVNI festival in english.
not in español, not in Catalan. in english, boring monotonous manhatten english.
I am accordingly writing to the autonomedia collective this weekend to register my disappointment, lest the reader think this is a meaningless tangent, it is not, autonomedia function rather like indymedia and indeed there is much common ground, and well they have made more than "the tiniest impression in this or any other country".

so Jason Grehan you're talking shite.

Indymedia and it's allied orgs. make quite an impression everywhere, and maybe if the arts funding in the Irish equivalent to the BCN CCCB afforded you all the privelage you could listen to the autonomedia collective and watch their interesting video collection entitled "the road to September 11th".

I certainly think such an entertaiment might suit an english speaking country better....

I haven't a clue what 'autonomedia' or whatever it is you just rambled on about actually is, and I would bet that neither does 99.99% of the population of this or any other country. If you really do make more than the slightest impression on anyone, kindly demonstrate it by, say, stopping a war sometime??

Iosaf, as a member of the slash autonomedia group im both bemused and troubled by your walk out in catalonia/spain. from your posting I assume you speak english and so conclude that your walk out was in solidarity with those who dont. Was the talk translated? Did you offer to translate if it was not? as it goes the choice was to send someone without spanish or noone. Autonomedia is based in Brooklyn rather than Manhattan, the accents are quite distinct.

as to the similarities with indymedia, they are many but the distinctions are worth a mention. Slash code allows the site to be moderated and allows users to configure and manipulate to taste. Moderation allows a fluid editorial group to choose not to publish some material. You will notice (and appreciate) the absence of reactionary garbage, conspiracy theory, sectarianism, market libertarianism, Zionist propaganda and any number of other symptoms of mental disease routinely published on indymedia. Furthermore those who create a username and password and who bother to log in can themselves moderate the comments sections on each story by scoring comments, users settings can then allow them to have all comments appear or only those that are informative, interesting, usefull, thoughtful etc. All for a healthier mental environment!

that way those who would use other peoples labour to promote fianna fail can be read by only the most studious and thick skinned. we already know the arguments we have with right wingers, on slash you can choose not to have them practice on you.

With all your attacks on the 'trots', that read like red scares from the British Tory tabloid press from the 1980s, you are acting as tools for the bourgeois by discrediting decent hard working working class activists.

If you are going to have a go at the 'trots' why don't you please use some better arguments than shite that Joe higgins is meant to have said etc... Why don't you try to critisise what Trotsky actually stood for? Why don't you put forward your problems with international socialism and the permanent revolution?
