Jump To Comment: 7 6 5 4 3 2 1The "scales of justice" photo-event was covered on the RTÉ News @ 6.00pm (Thursday July 3.
The Irish Times covered the press conference in its Friday July 4 edition.
Anyone else hear or see other coverage - e.g. other daily papers, radio or TV outlets?
There was no "clash" with the very successful Residents Against Racism march against deportations; many of the same people who attended and worked on the ISF press launch joined the RAR march.
The links were nicely illustrated by Ivana Bacik speaking at both the ISF press conference and the RAR march.
Great work done by everyone - I guess the only individuals who feel sore about all of this are likely to be Peter Sutherland and Mary Harney.
It is good to see different strands of the left working well together, achieving useful results, and attacking right wingers instead of other parts of the left.
A final thought - congratulations to the jury members at Kilrush Court who refused to convict Mary Kelly - it was a great strategy to invite witnesses such as Ramsey Clarke and Denis Halliday to testify at the political trial.
The people have spoken.
its unavoidable i tihnk july 6ht was picked before this other thing anyway
i for one will try to be present at both ans it is exactly the type of thing the members isf want to be involved in
If anyone makes an error with a date in their post the editorial group will be delighted to make a change if you email them at imc-ireland-editorial@lists.indymedia.org with the url of your post and a description of what you want changed or the complete replacement post. Much better than just slapping up another post on the newswire and driving other people's news off until an editor happens to notice. I'm sure you didn't mean to do that or think about it, so this is just a heads-up for everyone. Thanks.
how will the isf hlep out people say over hte next five years ?
The big question on the lips & minds of the 'activist' community... will the ISF back a street blockade or not... let the slew of comments begin below
(and remember children, be nice to each other..!)
Another World Is Under Construction!
Invite to the 2nd all-island Irish Social Forum get-together
at the Teachers Club, 36 Parnell Sq., Dublin 1; 11.00 am to 5.00pm Sunday July 6th 2003
Who Should Take Part?
Anyone involved in formal or informal groups / movements / NGOs expressing the needs of Irish society
Anyone interested in building a Social Forum to connect up our different movements and express the "other world" that our movements are building
Anyone interested in opposing the future that the World Economic Forum, the EU and our own rich and powerful tell us we have to accept
Background:
From December ’02 to May ’03 activists and organisers from a wide range of different movements took part in a consultation and dialogue process discussing the possibility of creating an Irish Social Forum, and what it should look like. This led to the 1st ISF all-island one-day Open Space consultation process on May 24th last which had 75 people from around the island attending. A consensus adoption of the WSF Charter of Principles was made (with expression of intent not to discriminate against people in political parties) and a mandate was given to create five interim working groups in order to create a structure within which to get the work done to plan the July 6th get-together and to plan for 1st Irish Social Forum, Fri. Oct. 17th - Sun Oct. 19th, 2003. These ISF Interim Working Groups will be reporting to the plenary on July 6th on the progress made so far and a consensus review of the working structures will be made by the plenary. July 6th will incorporate a launch of the ISF, with presentations being made, as well as being a working meeting where decisions are made and participants will also have an opportunity to hold their own discussion groups.

Um, do the ISF know they're clashing with a Refugees March tomorrow at midday, calling for foreign parents with kids born here to be allowed stay? Organised by Residents Against Racism, a very active, grassroots community group. Isnt the ISF supposed to be supporting/representing these marginalised people? Why not bring the media down to it, to talk to the marginalised and at risk in Irish society? They are meeting at midday at the Central Bank on Dame Street.
