offsite link Why I Fear What Labour Will Do to the Education System Sun Jul 28, 2024 11:00 | Stephen Curran
We are facing a radical agenda set by the progressive wing of the educational establishment, says Dr Stephen Curran. We should build on the past 14 years' foundation, not tear it down.

ART TRUCK 2004
Coming from a background from art and music the organisers are interested in bringing art to new audiences, we believe that everyone is interested in art, they just have not discovered it yet, or the geographical location has them cut off from information in regards to how to get involved, either as active participant in the performance or creation of these arts or just the luxury of being at a performance or exhibition of art.

In Ireland artistic activities are generally located in and around the larger cities, with this project we have the opportunity to bring art and new forms of music with independent artist from every field together for free to new audiences.

This concept evolved from a series of gigs that were held in a gallery which provided a similar platform for the type of artist that we are plannning for this truck. As the gallery was located in Templebar in Dublin, an area rich with galleries and all sorts of artistic activity it was the perfect location, the difference was that the gigs were set up to be accessible to anybody who walked in off the street, sometimes the people were literally dragged in off the street to view the performances.

The basic idea was to try and rid people of the view that a gallery is a place that is only meant for those initiated into the artistic circle and to make it a place were all art forms come together and have equal importance, at the same time giving the music lover a chance to view paintings or sculptures, the musician a chance to perform to people there for an audience who would never think of going to a gig and so on. These gigs brought young and up-coming artists with their exhibitions to a space that was also used for regular performance by many independent musicians ranging from electronic and ordinary improv to classical to singer/songwriter and of course straight forward rock bands.

So following on from the above and taking into consideration the centralisation of art we decided to move the concept of the gallery onto a mobile performance area in the shape of a truck which we will be touring around different towns in Ireland bringing the art and performances to new audiences and giving the performers a chance to show, perform their art in a unique enviroment.

We are of the opinion that all art froms belong together visual and audio, that they compliment each other and that by combinin them we increase the chance of broadening peoples horizons who heretofore would have confined their interest solely to one or another or none of these.

On this truck we plan to have workshops, exhibtions of both paintings and sculptures , constant streams of visuals, ranging from film to computer generated visuals, and presentations on these, as well as performances by musicians from every spectrum available.

We hope this will show the wide variety of talent available within every art form and that the truck will be able to represent a small slice of the activity that is going on in Ireland today.

CALL FOR SUBMISSION

The organisers of the ART TRUCK call for submissions for the forthcoming 2004 ART TRUCK project, we are looking for submission in the following areas:

1. Improvisation Workshops

These will serve the purpose of opening up the field of Improv music to a wider audience, and also to show that music is easily accessible to anybody as long as they have an interest. We want all the workshops to tie in with our ethos which is that art is for everybody, and not just a select talented few.

2. Sculpture Workshops

These should free people from their traditional ideas of sculpture in every respect, we would like these to take in the idea that the level of skill and materials are insignificant all that matters with art is the creativity involved the rest can follow later.

3. Visual Presentations

We would like a constant stream of either film or computer genrated visuals to be presented simultaneously with the music which will be going on on stage or alternatively we would also consider collaberations between visual and audio artists. Also a short informative presentation to go with the visuals.

4. Painting

We are looking for a selection of paintings to be submitted by different artists, which will be on permanent display throughout the trucks tour.

5. Bands

We are interested in all independent musicians from all music backgrounds to do performances on this truck!

If you could forward this information on to anyone
you know that would be interested in this that would be great!
