Police ban G8 Alternatives march to G8 Summit

In a dangerous attack on civil liberties,

In a dangerous attack on civil liberties, Tayside Police have decided to prevent the Wednesday 6th July march against the G8 demonstrating in front of the Gleneagles Hotel.
In the same way that the G8 mafia want to control the world, Tayside Police believe they can control our streets and stop us having the free access that generations of Scots have fought for.
"This is the 21st Century and we are in a democracy, we should be able to take to our own roads in Scotland and march past the hotel and have our voices heard."
Campaigner Rose Gentle, whose soldier son Gordon died in Iraq last year, added: "We are not animals or terrorists - we just want our voices to be heard."

I note that in the alternatives to the G8 discussion there will be no-one there as a socialist. Sheridan of the SSP will put forward nationalism. Lindsey German of the StWC will carefully hide her SWP membership. I'm sure she'll only talk about Islam! Why are the Socialist Party/CWI not invited. Did you ask Joe Higgins? Or are ye afraid that the Socialist Party would actually advocate Socialism as an alternative to the G8!!

considering the swp didn't march on farmleigh last year after the gardaí banned it, can I also assume that if i travel with G8mobilise that i wont see gleneagles at all this summer?

author by Ignorantpublication date Mon May 23, 2005 21:17author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I thought that Tommy Sheridan's part of the SSP is the sister organisation in Scotland of the Socialist Party? Is that not the case? Also, that's a bit unfair on Lindsey German. I saw her speak at the European Social Forum and she was very good and very socialist. Can't remember if she said she was in the SWP or not. Looks like a good line-up to me....SWP? needs to cop himself on!!

Tommy will advocate socialism unambigiously as he always does, problem is since he no longer has the CWI franchise he has to be attacked and accused of nationalism. Of course only the CWI alone advocates socialism, everyone else has sold out. What a load o pish.

I remember the trip to Evian for the G8 protest. The SWP unilaterally decided to go to Geneva while on the bus down leaving those wishing to go to Evian shafted and without the correct curreny. I would not like to go on any more trips with the SWP. Also remember their trip to Brussels in 2001 when they went by Ryanair as the bus was being organised by the SP and was cheaper. Scotland ain't too far away, I'll get there by bus/ferry by myself without the undemocratic and sectarian actics of the SWP.

The CWI will also advocate nationalism. Only their's will be a British orientated one. Only don't tell them Britain isn't a nation.

Remember when we shut down the G8? Remember when we stormed the Red zone? That was long time ago. Now our liberal Trot friends complain about "restriction of civil liberties" and bring us back to the old days: (ritual) march and listening to (boring) speaches. And now together: "One solution..." Yawn.

has it that Globalise Resistance or whatever name is 'in' these days are only going for the first 3 days of July, missing the summit altogether.
Is this true?

author by -publication date Tue May 24, 2005 21:08author address author phone Report this post to the editors

GR are leaving to go back to London on the morning of Thrusday 7th July. The G8 summit runs from Wednesday 6th July to Friday 9th July inclusive. I.e. they're only around for the first day.

This is totally unrelated to the fact that Marxism 2005 starts on Thursday 7th July in London and should in no way be seen as connected, nor as further proof that GR are an SWP front group who would prioritise a meaningless Trot love-in over the biggest political event in the UK in most of their memories.

Their short bus is only going for the make poverty history march on the 2nd rather than the international day of action on the 6th. Their long bus will be there for the 6th.

My mistake, apparently they've cancelled their long bus and are only going from the 1st til the 3rd. Make of this what you will ...

Isn't it time we marched on their offices and demanded that they disband?

They swp are little more than a pressure valve for the state, all dressed up in talk of revolution but never actually doing anything about it.

They are entirely impotent.
