CIA Accused of Using Airport in Mallorca

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Monday November 14, 2005 16:39author by pat c Report this post to the editors

At least the authorities in Mallorca are taking their responsibilities seriously. Any chance that the Airport Police (SIPTU members), the Gardaí or the DPP might take similar action at Shannon?

CIA Accused of Using Airport in Mallorca

By MARIA JESUS PRADES
Associated Press Writer

November 14, 2005, 9:45 AM EST

MADRID, Spain -- The National Court has received a prosecutor's report on allegations that the CIA used an airport on the Spanish island of Mallorca for a program of covert transfers of terror suspects, court officials said Monday.

The chief prosecutor for the Balearic Islands, which include Mallorca, submitted the 114-page report to the court in July, after a four-month investigation prompted by articles in a Mallorca newspaper, the court officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because court rules bar them from giving their names.

José Antonio Alonso the minister of the interior has started an investigation into whether or not the CIA are transferring prisoners through Spanish airports.
He has said in a TV interview that the allegations have serious implications for diplomatic relations between the USA and Spain.
José Bono the minister of defence has today said as of yet there is no evidence that the CIA have transferred prisoners either to Guantanamo or their recently exposed "black camps". The former minister of defence in the previous PP administration has denied knowledge of such flights.

(for the politicians' side)

The CNI have also today confirmed that they too are investigating all alledged spanish territorial links to the illegal transfer of prisoners and non-combatents by a NATO ally through Spanish sovreign territory. & that in bilateral discussions with their American counterparts in Spring of this year, they formally requested that the CIA not to continue with this activity. Today the traditional "leak/conduit"
of the CNI the radio channel SER claimed for the first time that the CNI have been preparing a report on USAF and CIA activity at Spain's airports between January 2004 and January 2005. Whilst this morning's El Pais also carried CNI information on several US flightpaths which connected spanish airports to Iraq and Guantanamo.

(for the spookie side)

{if this was just the political side it wouldn't be news}

& put in less info than I had put.

I've just like seen the interview on TV with Alonso sandwiched in between the trailers for "¿is there a true tradition of francoism?" on TV5 and spent the morning munching croissants and listening to SER radio tell me what the CNI have to say. (which is more important in any case. the CNI don't say much you know, so when they do, listen to them. The last time they said anything it was quite simply "it wasn't ETA")

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!
you've pissed me off.

OK Shannon people, here's the flight numbers on the planes:-

N313P, which had been modified from a N4476S-, a Gulfstream V -N379P, modified to N8068V- Gulfstream IV -N85VM, which also bore this number N227SV-.

In addition there is Boeing 737 registration number N 313 P which has flown to Poland and Rumania.

This story may be utterly and totally false. I have never heard of a such a wild story why would the CIA stop a flight carrying top secret suspects? For a MacDonalds Happy Meal? I don't think so. I have yet to hear this story from another source.

I'm not going in a witness stand or anything, but I've made my polite inquiries and I'm convinced.

This is a question of international law.
This is also a question on the quality of relationship between allies.
This is also a question of future co-operation.
This isn't scandal.

Spain probes 'secret CIA flights'

Spain is launching an investigation into claims that CIA planes carrying terror suspects made secret stopovers on Spanish soil. Interior Minister Jose Antonio Alonso made the announcement on Spanish television on Tuesday.

He said that if proven, such activities could damage relations between the Spanish and US governments.

According to Spanish press reports, the CIA is suspected of having used Majorca for such prisoner transfers.

"If it were confirmed as true, we would, of course, be looking at very serious cases," Mr Alonso told the private channel Telecinco.

is that set against the backdrop of a US congress non-binding resolution to start troop withdrawl from Iraq in 2006 and the recent assertion that the UK will also stop troop withdrawl from Iraq in 2006-

The Spanish Congress is studying a petition of the post marxist party IU that would allow the Congress information on the invesigation into CIA use of Spanish airports and their flight from there to :-
* Shannon Ireland
* Washington DC USA
* Rabat Morocco
* Orebo Sweden
* Skopye FYR Macedonia
* Bucharest Romania
* El Cairo Egypt
* Tripoli Libya
* Yibuti Eritrea
* Mitaga Libya
* Argel Algeria

"for starters". As you will notice Shannon Ireland is on the list. Its time to collate all airplane registration numbers.

The petition of IU asks for a statement in Congress from Minister Alonso and from Alberto Saiz the current director General of the CNI (spanish secret service) on flights from Son Sant Joan de Palma de Mallorca airport in the Balearic islands as well as other facilities. Other facilities could include the Canary island archipelago, whose regional government president confirmed to the SER radio station yesterday through a spokesperson is also requesting "complete disclosure" from the Madrid central government.

A10 dont u think its a bit racist to suggest that all the countries u mentioned are muslim and hate america, should u perhaps re phrase and say that these countries have governemnts that hate america!

Are u seriously suggessting that the worlds 1.2 billion muslims all hate america

or are u merely stereotyping according to what the media assert

Maybe u should alos ask why do people hate America?
