As many of you will probably suspected, you have been consuming Genetically Modified foods for some time now, but do Irish consumers have any idea to what extent this is the case? Since 1998, Ireland has approved the introduction of unlabelled GM animal feed and food in Europe (indeed, Ireland has NEVER voted against GMOs in the European Parliament ot the Council of Ministers). Therefore, if you are a meat eater, there is a good chance the animals have been fed on GM animal feed. Buying meat from abroad is also no guarantee. For example, Denmark is one of the largest producers of pork and bacon, and the country is also a major purchaser of soya (much of which comes from Argentina, the world's 3rd largest producer of GM soya). |

Jump To Comment: 1Beliefs and morals are being tampered with right throughout the Capitalist Material World. It is as if anarchists are in control. No accepted norms, including the organic rich and wholesome food from the land, are beyond the hands of the exploitative market forces which are condoned by all modern Western Governments. This ironically will in the long run be anti business; as in a while no one will trust their neighbour. Business will have to spy on everyone with cooperation from governments, so that it will exist. Eventually unregulated business will get a bad name, and business people will be treated like pariahs. The core doctrine that sustains lasting life has got to be resurrected. GM foods are just another nail that is required to sustain life in the short term in a society that knows not where they are going. For a more detailed comment on GMO, see my comment to a previous discussion on same. http://www.indymedia.ie/article/75960?author_name=Coillte, and proud of it!&comment_limit=0&condense_comments=false#comment148710
