Mr Sean Harrington of the Shell to Sea Campaign and a resident of Bellanaboy, Co Mayo, will be the main speaker at a Public Meeting which will take place in the City Hotel, Quay Street, Sligo, on this Friday evening the 3rd November commencing at 8.00.p.m.

The meeting which is being held under the auspices of the Connolly Forum, is being held in support of the Shell to Sea Campaign and to show solidarity with the people of Erris and Bellanaboy. It is expected that a Sligo Shell to Sea support committee will be established on the night.

Speaking today the former Mayor of Sligo, Councillor Declan Bree, who will Chair the meeting, said, “The majority of people in Bellanaboy and Erris area have made it clear that they are totally opposed to the current proposal by Shell to construct its gas refinery and terminal and we have witnessed distressing scenes when local people participated in peaceful demonstrations against the refinery.

“People from the local community have consistently highlighted their well founded concerns about the proposed pipeline and refinery and they have consistently called for a sea or near-shore based location for the facility. This is an issue that the Government and Shell must now address.” said Councillor Bree.
