Conference - Burlington Hotel: 8-9th November 2006

An important event is taking place on Wednesday and Thursday (8th to 9th November) in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin. Ireland’s Atlantic “Petroleum Province” is being discussed. Confused? This “Province” consists of all the Irish Atlantic oil and gas fields that have been explored so far.
At present, the Irish Government is handing out licences to Shell, Exxon-Mobil, Statoil, and others as fast as they can. The Irish Government and the global oil and gas industry are working in close partnership, and have been for many years. Shell and Statoil, the energy multinationals involved in the Corrib project, will be represented, as will the Minister for Marine and Natural Resources, who is to give the opening address.
Follow the links below for further details. It is important that this event is advertized widely, and actively picketed, to express the outrage of the public against this collaboration of elected representatives in the giveaway of Ireland’s natural resources.

The Conference, entitled “Exploring Atlantic Ireland” is being held over two days at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin on Wednesday the 8th to Thursday the 9th November 2006. It is organised by the Petroleum Affairs Division (PAD) http://www.dcmnr.gov.ie/Natural/Petroleum+Affairs+Division/ of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources. The registration fee for this conference is €356.95 + VAT. The speakers include representatives from PAD, the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, various industry specialists and representatives from Shell, Statoil and Providence Resources, Anthony O’ Reilly’s company, http://www.energyireland.ie/atlantic/Exploring_Atlantic...l.htm which has just been handed a share of the huge Dunquin gas and oil field 200km off the West Coast of Ireland, 80% of which will go to their partners, Exxon-Mobil. The Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey, fresh from the August 2006 announcement of the licensing round for the Donegal, Slyne and Erris fields, will open the conference on Wednesday.
It is vital that protestors be present at this event to register their outrage at this hand-over of national resources to these corporations. The resources of this country should be in the hands of the citizens of this country. Our oil and gas resources should be nationalised.

This needs to be highlihted in light of the Corrib gas rip-off. Underlines how this shameless governement has learnt nothing from previous decisions which have deprived the people of this country their birthright. Only sorry I can't get to Dublin for this!!
