news report
Thursday January 11, 2007 01:01 by IMC Collective
In November and December 2006, Indymedia Ireland embarked on a fundraising drive to raise money to pay our hosting costs and to send money to Africa to help establish an indymedia centre in Nairobi, Kenya. January 2007 will see the World Social Forum in Nairobi, Kenya. The international Indymedia Network are attempting to set up an indymedia centre to cover the WSF and to help to create more indymedai sites in Africa. It is estimated that 30,000 USD is needed to complete the plans - most of which will go into paying for airfares for African delegates. We held a series of events to celebrate our fifth birthday and raised money through the internet. We ended up raising about €1,100. On Thursday, January 19th, we transferred €600 to IMC-Africa Kenya. We would like to thank all of our supporters and readers for their generous contributions to this worthy cause. The details of the money raised is given below.
