theres a good story from the strike. Sexton who was general secretary of the National Union of Dock Labourers came over from london after the RIC went on strike. he gave a bizarre speech which ended with: "I see no difference between a man who works with a shovel and a man who works with a truncheon"!(1) I guess he saw them as workers in uniform.
