A month after the arrival of Scotland's Hate Crime Act and it appears reports of the demise of the Scottish Enlightenment may have been premature, no thanks to the SNP but due to the doughty spirit of the Scots.

Should governments be able to censor online content for the entire world? That's what Australia is claiming the right to do. But do they really think China and Russia should be able to choose what the world sees?

Outgoing Chief Executive of the Climate Change Committee Chris Stark has accused Net Zero sceptics of waging a "culture war". Not really, says Ben Pile, but the way politicians are pushing it we could end up in civil war.

Mórshiúil ar son Acht Gaeilge

category antrim | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Saturday February 03, 2007 19:11author by Ciarán Ó Brolcháin Report this post to the editors

Acht Gaeilge Anois

Beidh mórshiúil go lár chathair Bhéal Feirste ag tarlú Dé Sathairn 24ú Feabhra, é eagraithe ag eagrais éagsúla atá ag éileamh Acht Gaeilge do na Sé Chondae.

There will be a march to Belfast city centre happening on Saturday 24th February, organised by a number of organisations that are demanding an Irish Language Act for NI.
Acht Gaeilge Anois!
Acht Gaeilge Anois!

Tá ceithre bunéileamh don Acht ag an scátheagras atá ag iarraidh go mbeadh Acht Gaeilge sna Sé Chondae, agus is iad sin:

* Cloígh le gealltanas Chill Rímhinn
* Cearta Gaeilgeoirí ag croí an Achta
* Acmhainní oiriúnacha leis an Acht a chur i bhfeidhm
* Coimisinéir na Gaeilge leis an Acht a mhaoirsiú

Beidh daoine ag bualadh le chéile lasmuigh de Chultúrlann Mc Adam Ó Fiaich ar Bhóthar na bhFál le fágáil ag 1in ar an lá.

Bí linn.

The umbrella group that is pushing for an Irish Language Act for the Noth has made four basic demands for the Act, which are:

* Keep the St Andrew's Committment
* Irish speakers' rights at the heart of the Act
* Adequate resources to implement the Act
* An Irish language commissioner for the North

People will be meeting outside Cultúrlann Mc Adam Ó Fiaich on the Falls Road to set off at 1pm on the day.

Be there.

B'fhéidir gur botún é an mórshiúl seo a eagrú ag am chéanna a bhfuil mórshiúl Shell chun Sáile ag tarlú i mBaile Átha Cliath?
Má éiríonn le Shell pobal Gaeltachta Mhaigh Eo a scrios lena bpíoblíne, déanfaidh sin dochar millteanach don teanga freisin.
Tá an dá rud tábhachtach dúinn, gan amhras ar bith, ach sílim gurbh fhéidir déanamh cinnte nach mbeadh an dá rud ag teacht salach ar a chéile.
Caithfidh na Gaeil a neart a chruinniú seachas a scaipeadh!

Aontaím leat go dtí pointe, ach tá an mórshiúl seo eagraithe le tamall fada.
Tá agóid eile beartaithe do Ard-Fheis Fianna Fáil ar an lá céanna i mBaile Átha Cliath.
Ar chóir agóid Shell chun Sáile a chur ar ceal dá thairbhe sin?
Ní dóigh liom é!
Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann muid uilig.

Nílim ag rá gur chóir rud ar bith "a chur ar ceal", ach is féidir agóidí a chur ar athlá. Nó, níos fearr fós, is féidir iad a bheartú ó thús i gcaoi nach dtagann siad salach ar a chéile ar chor ar bith.
Baineann drochobair Shell i Maigh Eo le cearta lucht na Gaeilge chomh mór is a bhaineann Acht Teanga (rud nach féidir a rá faoin agóid in éadan FF an lá sin).
Is dócha nach bhfuilim ag rá sa deireadh ach gur cheart go mbeadh ceangal níos fearr idir feachtais Gaeilge agus feachtais pholaitiúla eile, go bhfeicimid an ceangal idir na ceisteanna éagsúla.
Is fíor duit: ar scáth a chéile a mhairimid. Ach ní ar scáth a chéile a bheimid Dé Sathairn, is léir! Is trua sin, ach déanaimis iarracht le cinntiú nach dtarlaíonn sé seo arís.
Go n-éirí go geal leis an agóid i mBéal Feirste.

Hello,

I met with representatives from the ACHT Campaign at the Bloody Sunday Commemoration Weekend earlier this year. At that time, it was mentioned that supprt from groups in England could help strengthen the Campaign. I have since discussed the issues with groups in England, and the response has been very positive. We would like to get in touch with the Campaign organisers (unfortunately did not get contact details in Derry). Is there a website or e-mail address for this Campaign, where we could find out more information?

Any help or information would be much appreciated,

All the best,

Caroline
