You can't be talking about Eirigi? They hardly count as dissidents. They supported the GFA until very recently.
Yes confused, you are correct. éirígí are not 'dissidents' nor have they ever claimed to be. Where on this thread does it mention that éirígí are dissidents. On a point of order, éirígí has never supported the GFA. éirígí has recently published its paper ‘Imperialism, Ireland and Britain’. In it éirígí's position is very clearly stated.
In relation to political movements which challenge British rule in Ireland and the techniques used by Britain to defeat such movements the paper states that Irish history ‘…is littered with military campaigns, treaties and statutes designed by Britain to neutralise such movements and prolong the occupation.’ This is the context within which the Good Friday and St Andrews Agreements must be viewed which éirígí believes ‘…are considerably more likely to solidify British rule in Ireland than they are to end it.’
I don't recall any previous pronouncements by éirígí on the matter.
The paper can ce accessed at the following link:
http://www.eirigi.org/latest/latest230107.html
The article that started this thread states that republican dissidents will be involved in the discussion. I was guessing they meant eirigi.
Funny thing is, you and me agree. I said you weren't dissidents as the author of this thread states. And you back that up.
And to finish, maybe you are more confused then me. Eirigi is made up of people who left Sinn Fein recently. The GFA is nearly ten years old. I think the fact that most of your membership stayed in a party that supported the GFA is proof enough of your support of it.
That does not indicate support for the GFA. Once again, éirígí does not support the GFA, nor has it ever. To suggest that people who were once members of an organisation that holds a particular view on the GFA means that those individuals are bound to the position of that organisation ad infinitum is ludicrous.
Could there be a link between the fact that some members of éirígí were once members of an organisation that, amongst others things, supported the GFA, and the fact that they are now members of a group that, amongst other things, does not support the GFA?
Go figure Sherlock, a phleidhce!!
Watson,
It took Eirígí 10 years to discover they didn't support the GFA? Slow learners or was there some other reason?
They'll probably come out soon and say they supported O Bradaigh's walk out in '86.
