Jump To Comment: 1I think it was 1996 when the then "republican society" won the S.U presidents post for the first time.
The successfull candidate was a guy called McGarrity. Sinn Fein was nothing like the force they are today and he obviously reckoned he could have a better career elsewhere. So he jumped ships and joined the SDLP, bet he's sick now.
While we're on the subject how's about a reunion for the Republican society old guard, Father Henry, big Mickey etc. wee Darren is still in Portlaoise but i'm sure he would send his greetings.
