On Wings & Prayer? Bishops condemn Shannon Aer Lingus move.

category national | racism & migration related issues | other press author Sunday August 12, 2007 00:01author by iosaf Report this post to the editors

Even the most casual of Irish news cyber-surfer will have caught yet another one of those photo-opportunities of First minister minister doctor right honourable Ian the big mon Paisley of little Ulster stroking the tail-fin of an Aer Lingus model plane this week. He was chuffed because his new government had just managed to strip Shannon airport of all its remaining christian traffic & good travellers & convince Aer Lingus to reschedule its Heathrow flights from Shannon to Belfast.
Oh well that has brought ecumenical flavour and colaboration to the Sunday Homily and Sermon circuit of Ireland.

It has been reported on RTE that both Roman kathurlick and Anglikhan bishops of Connaught and Munster and western Erin in general have combined forces to offer you a serious peptalk from the pulpit of Ireland's dreary steeples tomorrow on the pernicious evil which is the FF and Green Party's government. Oh yes. We see it clearly now. Not a squeek on Shannon losing jobs or traffic & becoming more reliant than ever on USAF related services. in the name of a peace process... or economic rescaling?

I suppose someone up in Craigavon will suggest funding "UlsterAir" next.
http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/0811/aerlingus.html

Anyway I'd like to second all this condemnation of FF & Green Party and radical independent deputy Mary Harney's skullduggery. They are not only playing with national symbols as much industry, but handing McGuinness, the IRA, the UVF and Paisley a pearl in the crown of shamrocks which is Ireland's sacred identity. & as we know - it is the common worker who suffers. Shannon is one step closer to being a warport. Shame on ye all. God bless Paisley for offering a more chaste route to the western traveller to London Heathrow. You're not getting on the craft with that tube in your luggage. Our thoughts go this morning to the prisoners of our myriad campaigns, may they know the everlasting solace of your solidarity.

pass the plate.

Noel Dempsey returned from his holidays quite recently and today did the press thing.
Its a 'fait accompli', the government will not interefere in the decision by the board of
Aer Lingus regarding the slots. its amazing that after months of turmoil and bad blood, the
new minister for transport can reduce it all down to a media soundbite.
Thats probably why he is the Minister for Transport. Bit like the handling of Shell/Rossport
and the Laffoy Commission, to name a few of his other jobs. Shannon now must go
on the market to find new slots, whilst FF continue to pawn off the nation's heritage
and health service to the highest bidders.
