A meeting took place on Sunday 17th August2008 @ 11 AM in 5 Anglesea Terrace Greenore well attended by Environmental & Health members from the peninsula.
The main topic discussed was the 2009 workshop on Bullying. This proved a very diverse topic which will stimulate much interest as many in the course of their lifetime are subject to BULLYING of some stage or another. Speakers are being currently researched with some confirmed to date including the facilitators Dr Michael Desmond Hynes Secretary of CEHG and Signor Seán Crudden BSc H Dip in Ed, Treasure of CEHG. Both men are getting the structure in place for the event which is of great interest as it is a reality for many of the populous though many may be afraid to admit it for one reason another.
The meeting also heard that “effects of bullying can be serious and even fatal and cause stress on its victim(s). Ugandan Social Worker Flavia Amayo thanked CEHG for their hospitality. Miss Amayo was invited to Ireland by CEHG and has had a guided tour of many areas of the peninsula whilst undertaking a research project on ASB which includes bullying. Flavia produced a paper for us on ASB for the workshop in January 2208.
The group meet next Sunday 22nd September 2008 @ 11 AM in Anglesea Terrace Greenore

In Anglesea Terrace Greenore Cooley Environmental & Health Group held a well-attended meeting Sunday 21st September 2008.
The main topic under discussion was the workshop on Bullying programmed for The Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth on Saturday 24th January 2009 from 2pm - 5.30 PM. A list of speakers is under construction who will speak on aspects of bullying that is relevant to their position.
Most people have suffered some form of bullying in their lives whether as a child at school, in the home, the workplace, and the sports field, the Church, the media, in custody, in business, politics, residents associations, and trade unions as well as many other areas that the workshop will explore.
The degree of bullying varies from place to place and from time to time. The workshop will try to see a bully’s point of view as to why s/he is bullying and how a better order of social harmony can come about. The meeting heard the phenomenon of bullying is worldwide, as bullying is rife in most parts of the world where human interactions take place. Bully culture knows animals too as one members said, “Life in a jungle meant much bullying too often resulting in death as an animal gets his prey”. Recent equality laws coupled with Human Rights Convention has brought Bullying to the forefront viewed by the populous as a legacy of Anti-Social Behaviour. As one member put it, “all Anti-Social Behaviour is a form of Bullying and all Bullying is a form of Anti-Social Behaviour.
To address the theme of bullying the workshop will need to define what is bullying. Does it exist in our society? Where When How it exists and what are society doing to tackle the situation that may or may not exist.
The next meeting of the group is in The Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth Sunday 19th October 2008 @ 11 AM.
Report on CEHG Meeting in Omeath Sunday 19th October @ 10 AM
The well attended Cooley Environmental & Health Group (CEHG) meeting took place in The Strand Hotel Omeath Sunday 19th October 2008.
The meeting wished to thank the sponsors of the website for their generosity: Cooley Distillery Plc; Bellurgan Precision Engineering; Cooley Sand and Gravel and Ballymascanlon Hotel and Leisure Complex.
A delegation from CEHG Secretary Most Rev Dr Michael D Hynes OMD and Signor Seán Crudden Treasurer met with Prof Dennis Pringle, Dr Patrick Duffy and about 25 Post Graduate Students from Maynooth College’s Geography and Statistical Department on Sunday 5th October 2008 in The Strand Hotel Omeath. The meeting heard that the students were on a Field Trip over the weekend to the Cooley Peninsula and Hinterlands undertaking a “Comparative STUDY OF Shopping in Dundalk and Newry”. This day was very informative for all and revealed how lucky we in Cooley are to be so close to the border in such a lovely scenic area having Carlingford as our main town. We hope to have some of the Group participate in the forthcoming workshop on BULLYING on the 24th January 2009 in The Strand Hotel Omeath. CEHG were pleased to hear that all enjoyed their stay overnight in Carlingford and will be back with friends in the near future.
Participants for the workshop are being sourced at present with many confirmed they are taking part.
Next Meeting is scheduled for Sunday 23rd November 2008 @ 10 AM in The Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth. In the meantime enjoy the Halloween festivities and take care.

Cooley Environmental & Health Group (CEHG) Sunday 23rd November 2008
A great enthusiasm was shown for forthcoming workshop to be held on Saturday 24th January 2009 from 2 pm – 5.30 pm in The Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth of which the theme of the workshop is “BULLYING”.
Final touches are been put in place now for getting the speakers organised for the workshop out of a list of 24 people from diverse backgrounds.
The coordinators of the workshop are Dr Michael D Hynes Secretary of CEHG and Mr Seán Crudden Treasurer of CEHG. The workshop will be of an informal nature that is it shall be directed by the Secretary who shall introduce the event and call speakers in an order that makes sense and easy listening for the adherents. It will be interesting to hear what each participant has to say and see from the floor what conclusions can be made on the topic BULLYING.
Questions addressed will include as follows: A definition of bullying? Are bullies born or made? Does bulling really exist? Where and when? How it exists? What can be done to alleviate the cause of bullying? Are there differing levels of bullying? Who are mostly affected by Bullying if it exists? What laws are there to protect people from bullying? Has bullying become a social or anti-social norm in certain sectors of our society? What are the spread effects of bullying? Can it be contagious? Do we want to eradicate Bullying if it exists? Mr Seán Crudden shall sum up the workshop. It will be interesting to hear the list of speakers who will speak from differing backgrounds in our society as one member said “it takes all types to make a world”!
There has been interest in this workshop from abroad as some are seeking an invitation to this workshop and we welcome such interest.
We hold our next meeting on Sunday 21st December 2008 @ 11 am in Anglesea Terrace Greenore Co Louth and welcome new members especially who in an affable manner have grievances to sort out. NO BULLING PLEASE Thank you
Most Rev Dr Michael Desmond Hynes OMD
Secretary Cooley Environmental & Health Group
Carlingford Lough divides Co Louth in the republic of Ireland from Co Down in Northern Ireland. Interestingly jurisdiction on Carlingford Lough is equivocal and indeterminate in spite of many treaties between Britain and Ireland such as those outlined in The Government of Ireland Act or The Good Friday Agreement. There used to be a small ferry to transport foot-passengers between Omeath and Warrenpoint. The journey (in an open boat) one-way took about 20 minutes. During the summer there was renewed talk and speculation about building a bridge across the Lough further back nearer Newry at a spot called (for obvious reasons) "Narrow Water." The pictures with this note were taken on Sunday 23 November 2008 at around 10.45 a.m. immediately before the meeting in The Strand Hotel, Omeath, of Cooley Environmental and Health Group.
