Media and FF sources are saying that the Taoiseach is furious that Monsieur Sarkozy is going over his head and talking directly to the No Campaigners.
Media and FF sources are saying that the Taoiseach is furious that Monsieur Sarkozy has the gall to go over his head and talk directly to the No Campaigners. This is seen by Mr. Cowan as a insult and implies that Mr. Cowan and indeed the Irish establishment cant be relied upon by Brussells to get the job done effectively. This undermines Mr. Cowan and most of the opposition are not too happy that the great unwashed are being consulted. This is simply not supposed to happen. Usually these things are dealt with by government to government and behind closed doors or at least by elected and therefore 'respectable' political parties. This explains why the government and its media has been griping about how badly the French Embassy has organised events when what they really mean is that Mr Sarkozy should not be meeting these groups at all or giving them any publicity whatsoever.
“Media and FF sources are saying…”
This is a load of hogwash probably dream up in a pub. How would “Brussels Insider” know in any case – this is the kind of fantasy one get after too many bevs on Rue de Charlemagne and long after the blanche has left common sense behind in Kitty’s. Anyway if one is going to opine on Cowen at least spell his name right – COWEN not Cowan. Brussels Insider indeed!
The correct spelling is Biffo! Anyway on to more to more important matters. Yesterdays charade clearly shows that the both the Irish and EU elites are still reeling from their lisbon hammering. However dont expect them to remain shell shocked for too much longer. The stakes are high and an empire awaits!
True - but their arses look rightly hooked to me, at least as things are at the present time.
I wonder what their next move will be?
Like all empires in the making they have a limited number of choices. They could go for repression! but it is still too early for that, it will come to that but they need the imperial mechanisms fully in place before they use this approach. That leaves only bribery which often works in these situations and finally trickery they could give a couple of sops such as 'allowing' us to 'keep' someone like harney for commissioner or a form of words on the more important issues such as neutrality and the protection of our Irish identity which they can revisit and overturn in a couple of years in their next treaty.
To siptu member:
There's certainly seems to be no shortage of funds for bribery (and lots of other nasty things besides) -- see at http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Brussels+Based+Slu...earch
