event notice
Tuesday August 12, 2008 16:00 by Andrew Smith - National Youth Organisation nyo at live dot ie
![Report this post to the editors Report this post to the editors](../graphics/report.gif)
August 13th, 1.30pm, Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, D1
A protest is taking place in Dublin City to highlight the issue that Ireland's Youth do not have a sufficient say in Government on matters involving them (Bullying, Drugs, Mental Health) The National Youth Organisation is calling on Ireland’s Youth to join them in a protest for a better youth voice. We feel that Ireland’s Youth do not get enough chances to speak on issues that concern them; Bullying, Suicide, Facilities for Youth etc.
Currently, Ireland’s Youth only get one day a year to speak on important issues, to the government. The National Youth Parliament (Dáil na nÓg) takes place only 1 day out of 365. Dáil na nÓg consists of members of Ireland’s Youth, who gather to discuss, and vote on issues, which have already been chosen for them. This means that all of Ireland’s Youth don’t get full say, and those who do, usually don’t get to speak on a variety of subjects that they want to.
The National Youth Organisation wants to ask you,
'Do you have an opinion on issues surrounding you?’
(Bullying, School, Drinking, Facilities...)
If You Do, ‘Are You Ever Asked?’
If You Are, ‘Are You Listened To?’
For most people, the answer is Yes to the first question, and No to the second and third.
We want to ask you,
‘Is That Right?’
And all people’s answer should be, NO!
The National Youth Organisation invites you, Ireland’s Youth to our protest, on Wednesday August 13th, 1.30 pm, at the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin1, (Top of O’Connell Street) to show The Government that we have our own opinions, that we want a better voice, and that we do care.
What we hope the outcome of this to be, is to discuss these matters with the Minister for Children, Barry Andrews, and achieve what the Youth of Ireland deserve;
A Better Voice That Is Listened To!
So come in to Dublin’s City Center, bring your friends, and shout, march, and protest for that voice you deserve!
Join us to show The Government that Ireland’s Youth, have a voice, and they know how to use it!
