Oxfam Poems for 2009 Launch

The Oxfam “Poems for 2009” calendar, a collaboration between poets and visual artists represented by the Blue Leaf Gallery, will be launched in Filmbase, Dublin 2 on Thursday November 6th.

The Oxfam “Poems for 2009” calendar, a unique collaboration between poets Moya Cannon, Patrick Deeley, Dave Lordan, Vona Groarke, Eamon Grennan and Eilean Ni Chuileanain and 12 visual artists represented by the Blue Leaf Gallery, will be launched in Filmbase, Dublin 2 on Thursday November 6th.

On the night there will be readings by all the poets and the artwork featured in the calendar will be exhibited and on sale, with all proceeds going towards Oxfam Ireland’s work to fight poverty and injustice in developing countries.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Oxfambooks has published a calendar with a competition to give emerging poets the opportunity to be published alongside established writers. This year’s featured winners are Anne O Connor, Eamonn Lynsky, Geraldine Mitchell, Liz Gallagher, Patricia Zontelli and David Mohan.

The art work on sale is by Guy Hanscomb, Dave West, Eoin Llewellyn, Leonard Sexton, Josip Lizatovic, Margo Banks, Al Freeney, Shane Blount, Gerard Mc Gourty, Marty Kelly, Alan Clarke and John Duffy.

The price of the Oxfam “Poems for 2008” calendar is €12 and it will be on sale in all Oxfam shops from the 12th of November.
