Robbing the poor to pay the rich

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday December 19, 2008 22:21author by newsmedia - newsmedianews Report this post to the editors

The Irish government has again turned to taking money off the poor to fund the rich.

This week thousands of people in receipt of rent allowance received letters from the Health Services Executive informing them that their weekly rent allowance is to be reduced by €5 starting 5 January.

"Currently the minimum weekly contribution paid by you is €13.00, but with Budget 2009 changes the minimum contribution from 5th January 2009 will be €18.00 per week," the letter stated.

The cut is equal to an annual reduction of €260. Not a lot, some might argue, but for those living already on a strapped budget, the cut will bring increased hardship. It is also unfair on those in receipt of disability, invalidity or sickness benefits.

Yes this is bad news, but where do you expect the government to get the money to bail out the mafia run banks and the pig poisoning industry. The poor must pay for this same as those 12 year old girls had to give up their cervical cancer inoculations and them school kids the od teacher here and there.

What are you suggesting as an alternative anarchy?

I did not receive any letter.
Will I have to pay E5 / week extra?
At the moment the landlord gets 25 Euro per week extra from me straight into his bank account.
He asked 140 rent and there is no way I can get a ground floor bedsit for less. I have to deal with rats and cockroaches and a landlord who does not repair anything and did his own electric wiring and water.
We had a fire in the basement as a result of this and the lad who lives in the basement had to shut of the mains and it was off for days. On some days we have no water because the pipes start leaking and there is not enough pressure to make the electric shower work. But there is no other place for me at E140 or less.
I have high expenses on medication (not on the list for medical card refund)
I cannot afford the bread on the table as it is and have to eat at the failte with the homeless and drugs addicts because I cannot afford food.
How can I afford to pay E5 /week?

Did the person who wrote the above ever consider going to a decent hostel as it is not as costly as it seems .
You might also go in to Dublin City Council and chase a flat if any are available .............
People in flats are being terrorised by Scum Landlords who are seemingly above the law ,Dublin City Council is responsible for distributing info as to
your rights etc.
Or you could round up the homeless People and 'Stalk' D.C.C. and make a stand once and for all as to the available properties presently unoccupied
around Dublin itself .
Or you might make your way to The R.D.S. On Christmas Day and avail of the Annual Christmas Dinner where no one is turned away ,EVER.
Then Perhaps ,after replenishment of the Bod you might meet someone who is prepared to Join You In Your Crusade For Better Housing .
Or do we have to send for our pensioners in order to Put The BeJazus up The Slick Dick D.C.C. AND Open up the available housing Glut .
It never ceases to amaze me as to why the homeless persons are not organised and Bring The B******S To Account .
Or maybe there is, after all, money in homelessness , Now we are getting somewhere ,cosy little numbers for the selected 'Gentry' .
Rise Up And Stand Up For What Is Rightly Yours .
The 166 muttonheads that are in Power today ,and they are in the know ,dont let them cod you, are your employees in case you may be tempted to
crawl to them , Make them do what they are supposed to do , or else Block the streets with your presence and make sure you are heard once and for all.

And when you come over on christmas day 2008 to the R.D.S. Enjoy the afternoon and hopefully you might just meet someone who has a bit of fight left
in them and channel your fight in the manner befitting your intelligence ,
The 166 found the resourses during the 90s quick enough ,But sure that was a public excersise to show the world how much we'cared for Displaced
Persons Who Had Nowhere to go ,right . Has the pingean dropped yet ?

But sure, its only fair to make us pay! I'm on the bread line myself and keeping my house for x-mas is my present. But why should the rich have to pay? and surely not the bankers, who've been riding high all these years. Whats next?!?
Suppose well see in the next budget!

There should be an agency caled the 'Crooked Assets Beauro'. . That way those corrupt bankers, politicians and builders who creamed billions from working class people over the years and who now are being bailed out by the same working class people who made them rich in the first place, coulde be rounded up and their ill gotten assets removed. A 'crooked' assets beauro could round up all those who slip outside the remit of 'criminal' assets like Haughey, Aherne, ,,,ad infinitim..

Politicians should be put on short time like the rest of us. No more 4 month long summer breaks, 1 month for halloween (or does the halloween break now run un-broken from the summer), no more i month for xmas. give them all 6 months work for six months pay, they could claim the other six months in the scratcher.- this would reduce the govt expenditure on dail wages by 50%. Their expenses would also reduce likewise.
The general feeling of depression would lift somewhat , given we wouldent have to see them or hear them for half the year and this in itself could start a turnarround in the economy

The savings on their wage cut could partially fund the edcucation and health budget shortfall, We could tour them arround the world as a freak show / carnival / circus type thing to fund the rest -on their 6 months off and we'd have the country back on its feet in no time- on a much surer footing.

Slan agus Beanacht. Pol.

yes i got the invitation and today we had a nice stew for a few euro. They also gave us a cake donated by someone today.
to michael:
I cannot get housing provided it will take 10 years on the list and for ground floor it is even longer. that is the city council for ya.
hostels? I came from a hostel and this is the princely upgrade. You do not know anything do you?
Ever had the bloke on the top bunk bed vomit on you? Or try and rape you in the middle of the night? Ever slept with 50 in one room? ever fell trough the kitchen floor? You can get all that in the hostels.

the invitation. do not bring any valuables.
