YouTube Hosting Israeli Defence Force Propaganda Reports and Videos

category international | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Friday January 09, 2009 02:54author by Fred Johnston Report this post to the editors

YouTube 'Comments' section under propaganda videos is is turned off

The laughingly-termed Israeli defence Forces have put up videos and propaganda news - and have turned off the 'Comments' provision to prevent anyone commenting on it

Israeli Defence Forces have put up several pages of videos showing their forces attacking Gaza. claiming victories here and there, all hosted by an Australian-accented IDF soldier who discusses the advance of Israeli troops - but not the murders of women and children in Gaza. With predictable cowardice, however, the IDF has disabled the YouTube 'Comments' capability, in case anyone wishes to, eh, correct some of their reports. The blatant use of YouTube by the IDF should be immediately condemned and YouTube itself should asked to remove what is nothing more than propaganda, biased and distorted, for the cause of the Israelis wiping out Gaza. Clearly what the US dared to call 'the only democracy in the Middle East' is not up to criticism and will censor anything - by turning off the YouTube 'Comments' section or by bombing a couple of UN schools - with which it does not agree, including the democratically-elected Hamas government. There's no point in watching the videos unless you are a die-hard supporter of the IDF. Clearly the IDF - 'Israeli Death Force' - reckon that the YouTube site would be choked to a standstill by the objections of the world to Israeli barbarism in Gaza.

The Palestinians of ever persuasion have an ample presence on YouTube. Hell, EVERYTHING'S on You Tube! So the IDF disabled their comment thingy. Who cares? I don't see how this is a big issue...

You tube has a staunch no-censor policy regarding the takedown of videos.Radical Jonny hit it on the nose, EVERYTHING is on youtube, good and bad. This is such a non issue. Comments were probably disabled because it would be a steady stream of anti semitism (not anti israeli). Youtube doesnt have the benefit of ever vigilant dedicated moderators like indymedia. If you look through the removed comments on indymedia there is post after post of pure anti semitic venom.

Of course. I had forgotten the rules. Everyone critical of Israeli policy is an anti-Semite. So many Israelis, therefore, are by this definition anti-Semitic one sometimes gets confused. I think, to atone for my remarks, I should appease the gentlemen above me and donate some of my wages to the IDF. And we can watch their good work on YouTube and have our mouths sewn shut. Of course, I had forgotten.

There are reports in circulation (on CNN for example) which claim that Hamas is rejecting offers of low level talks with President- elect Obama: unless the United States rejects the use of violence.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jan/07/gaza-israel...stine

Anyone who wishes to check out this link to The Guardian newspaper of last Wednesday may not be so quick to toss around the old, worn nonsense about all objectors to Israel's murder machine are anti-Semites. The signatories are all Jewish. Some of the remarks they quote are ghastly in their implication:

“We the undersigned are all of Jewish origin. When we see the dead and bloodied bodies of young children, the cutting off of water, electricity and food, we are reminded of the siege of the Warsaw Ghetto. When Dov Weisglass, an adviser to the Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert, talked of putting Gazans "on a diet" and the deputy defence minister, Matan Vilnai, talked about the Palestinians experiencing "a bigger shoah" (holocaust), this reminds us of Governor General Hans Frank in Nazi-occupied Poland, who spoke of "death by hunger".

Now let those who dare breathe nonsense and tired, ugly accusation in the faces of people who see the true depth of the horror behind what the Israeli Defence Forces are doing.

. . . the first in the dock will be the Israelis, if it comes to war crimes, starting with the butcher of Sabra and Shatila. Now UN relief convoys are being shelled . . . the list is endless. The latest sick garbage from the IDF has been the dropping of leaflets telling Gazans in certain regions to move out - move where, precisely? It's OK to bomb mosques - imagine the outcry if it were synagogues that were shelled. In Ireland there are cross-party calls for the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland as a gesture to Europe that the murderous actions of Israel against the Palestinians must be answered.

Fred;

Obviously you didn't read my post properly or perhaps you purposely overlooked it. Yes of course there is a distinction between anti Israeli and anti semitism. Fact is along with legitimate anti Israeli comments is a spewing of anti Semitic vitriol, especially in an unmoderated space. Unfortunately for honest peace loving humanitarians, there is a concerted effort by racists to blur the lines between Israeli and Jewish, so that they can hide under the defense of being anti Israeli rather than a bigot. Just as there is an attempt to term people Zionists for supporting Israel (or rather, not supporting the Palestinians).

the Israeli guide to spin control on Palestinian massacres
A friend of mine who is who worked for multiple human groups describes the Israeli government reaction to Palestinian massacres that have occurred and are occurring in Gaza, such as the Samuni massacre and that at the UN school, like this (an opinion echoed by Robert Fisk in today's Independent):
a. It wasn't us, one of their bombs exploded by accident or it was their own gunfire
b. It was us but they were shooting from (near) there/storing weapons there
c. Ok maybe that's not the case, but our 'purity of arms' makes us better than anyone else: no other army in the world takes such care in avoiding civilian casualties
d. there's no need for an independent/international investigation because we are a democracy and conduct our own investigations; and besides, the world hates us.
e. why are you still talking about it, you anti-Semite

*also known as: "It wasn't me, and so what if it was, you anti-Semite"

Obviously not 'man' enough to come out with your real name! I can't quite decipher your last sentence in your comment. I don't know anything about ant-Semitic sentiment because, in truth, through all of the present slaughter, I haven't heard or read any. Believe that if you want, it's your choice. Perhaps you could tell me where you've been hearing and reading it? Now enough of this daft 'Mr Man' stuff. You're too old for that. But think on this - the reason children and women in Palestine are having their heads and limbs blown off by US-supplied (and UK-supplied) weaponry, not to mention being pounded with war-crimes phospherous bombs, is that a silly woman wants to win an election. That is the price, the value, that the Israeli government puts on Palestinian lives. I am tired, far too old, too weary, to deal with anonymous discussions.

Mr Man is my real name.

Avoiding the issue again. It is absolutely OK to criticise Israel, and I am not apologising for anything. As I already said, sites that are moderated usually take down these comments pretty quick, so if possible you can see them in the archives of various sites (as noted in my original post) whereas youtube is unmoderated.
