Berlin Mayday riots - 289 arrests & 1 was an off duty copper : "AnarchoPlod?"

category international | anti-capitalism | other press author Saturday May 09, 2009 23:04author by vendeval - (iosaf attempting human interest) Report this post to the editors

"good cop bad cop"

In the report on the annual police operation in Berlin delivered by local district German Federal Police chief Dieter Glietsch, we may read the usual justification for expenditure on kevlar, praise for "garda management", plea for more than this year's 6000 officer deployment, attention brought to the 450 of them who reported injuries and then one little jewel of intelligence.

a 24 year old police officer who is normally stationed in Frankfurt Airport was arrested after not only throwing cobble stones at Berlin plod but then having a fisticuff go at resisting arrest.

He is now suspended from duty.

"We are all a bit shocked, because this is not the behavior we expect from a colleague," a spokeswoman for the Frankfurt Airport police told German news agency DDP.

quite.

German tabloid "Bild" in its Friday edition reported how the so far un-named officer, is a paintball enthusiast and seemingly has written up a little report on his aggro and rucking (forgive the teutonic pun) on the usual internet social networks. Yep. He was :- "looking for a fight."

so it wasn't really political then, but we ought note he was arrested at the Kreuzberg anti-fascist gig which kicked off about about 18h00. Berlin's interior minister, Ehrhart Körting has publically lamented that the traditional date for clashes between unhappy people and plod just really isn't proving to be an incident free-festive-calender-tourist-gathering-money spinner with free condoms and lube like a love day parade. He tsk-tsk'ed about the 100 cubic meters of post-riot waste which was reportedly cleared up on Saturday the 2nd of May. All the same it's nothing compared to the average of 16,750 cubic metres collected after the aforementioned Loveparades. I don't need to source that. I am above suspicion of cheating wikipedia.

Careful readers will note the italics which the titbit of the young Frankfurter copper rioter's hobby was written. Well now the German government has announced that it will prohibit combat games such as paintball coz they reckon (so they say) too many nutters and antisocial types get into that kind of thing http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8041320.stm

The very careful amongst us will remember of course that the late Mr Dwyer was well into such combat games and through that network he met up with those nefarious characters in whose company he would go so far out his supposed depth - yea unto death indeed.

The very astute amongst us will remember the lengthy thread which saw in its 80 odd comments discuss such combat sports as paintball and airsoft rifles in Ireland with much interesting contribution from proponents of that sport. http://www.indymedia.ie/article/83659?condense_comments...ments

They might as well remember not to pack their little toys if they go to Germany in future, for anyone defying the proposed new rule could face a fine of 5,000-euro (or £4,474 if they think in ulster cash terms).

Let us now compare and contrast the cobble throwing frankfurt copper rioter with the agent provacateur who was memorably identified in Quebec 2007 (link with video and further statement from quebecker plod ) http://www.indymedia.ie/article/83907 .
