news report
Sunday August 23, 2009 19:26 by Raymond Deane - Irish Friends of Palestine Against Lisbon
Our day was enlivened by a passing, large, colourful and friendly gay pride parade. On Saturday August 22nd members of IFPAL (Irish Friends of Palestine Against Lisbon) and Free Palestine Campaign spent 10 hours on the streets of Galway city providing information on why IFPAL is calling for a No vote in the Lisbon referendum as a protest against the EU's support for Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people. Almost 1000 leaflets were distributed to passersby, who were mostly supportive. The activists took up position outside a number of stores that stock and sell Israeli goods, thus supporting the Israeli economy and indirectly supporting Israel's genocide against the Palestinians. These stores included Woody's, Aldi, Tesco, Debenham's, and Marks and Spencer. Our day was enlivened by a passing, large, colourful and friendly gay pride parade.
