An incinerator, two powerlines, two quarries, two masts, a windfarm, a recycling facility and turf-cutting

Speaking at the An Bord Pleanala hearing into the proposed College Proteins (CP) incinerator in Nobber, Co. Meath last week, the chairperson of North East Against Incineration (NEAI) claimed CP had misled the local council when it applied for a waste collection permit in 2004 and 2006, while the information in the incinerator proposal was inaccurate and misleading. A consultant for NEAI claimed the impact of the incinerator on human health was inadequately addressed in the CP EIS. (Meath Chronicle 7/11/09, pp. 12,13).

Opponents of the EirGrid/ESB powerline from Binbane to Letterkenny in Co. Donegal reacted to the decision by An Bord Pleanala to give the project the go-ahead by calling on landowners on the planned route to refuse work crews permission to enter their property. (Donegal Democrat 3/11/09, p. 4).

An Bord Pleanala has again delayed its decision on whether to grant permission to EirGrid for a 110 Kv powerline through Connemara, which was subject to an oral hearing in April. Ac decision is expected on December 15th. (Connacht Tribune 6/11/09, p. 20).

Residents of Kilpedder and Kilquade, Co. Wicklow, are joining hands to oppose a quarry proposed for their area by Keegan Quarries. A previous application by the company was refused last May. (Wicklow People 4/11/09, p. 3).

An Bord Pleanala will decide on Roadstone’s application for a quarry at Islandeady, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, which is facing local opposition, by next March. (Connaught Telegraph 3/11/09, p. 9a).

Roscommon County Council has refused H3G permission for a 98-foot mast at Croghan, Co. Roscommon. (Roscommon Champion 4/11/09, p. 2).

An Bord Pleanala has overturned a decision by Wexford County Council to refuse permission to O2 Ireland to retain a mast at the GAA club in Blackwater, Co. Wexford. (Wexford People 4/11/09, p. 11).

Residents in east Clare are considering an appeal to An Bord Pleanala against permission granted to SWS Energy Ltd. for a windfarm at Laughaun North, Tulla, Co. Clare. (Clare Champion 6/11/09, p. 5).

An Taisce has raised concerns over an application by Clare Waste & Recycling Co. Ltd. for retention and completion of a recycling facility at Tuamgraney, Co. Clare. (Clare Champion 6/11/09, p. 12).

Nearly 250 turf-cutters attended a meeting in Claremorris, Co. Mayo, last Sunday, called by the Turf Cutters and Contractors Associations to oppose restrictions on turf-cutting. (Mayo News 3/11/09, p. 10).
