Legendary musician Christy Moore has just announced he is to perform in the Ryston Centre, Newbridge. Co. Kildare on January 15th 2010 with the proceeds going to Culture Factory. Christy is bringing his full team to Ryston so that the night will be every bit as special as his gigs earlier this year. He invited Culture Factory to usher those two nights and he also recently performed in the intimate setting of The Liffey Studios in which Culture Factory organised at which he declared his support for the group and its objectives.

It has been a rollercoaster ride from the humble beginnings in which a group of frustrated and angry young people approached Terry, Christy’s sister, intent on addressing the chronic lack of facilities for young people in Newbridge. What emerged is a successful and vibrant group of young people who have been working and campaigning hard voluntarily for the last two years to establish a creative and social space dedicated solely to the needs of young people in Newbridge. In this time they have been the Chamber of Commerce chosen group for this year, producing their own t-shirts and film, working with professional artists such as Super extra Bonus Party, Band on an Island, Nialler9, Luka Bloom, and of course the production of their Business Plan with Newbridge Community Development and Kildare Leader Partnership to name but a few. The funds raised from this gig will go a long wat towards helping the group get a premises and open their creative and social space for the young people of Newbridge.

Support on the night comes from the superb local talents of Band on an Island, Aoife Kelly & Ian Kinsella, tickets are €35 and will go on sale on Wednesday 25th November and are available from Top Twenty Naas & Newbridge.

The struggle for creativity in a capitalist society throws up some contradictions, the police will happily
spends millions protecting vacant property to keep it locked down, while musicians desparately need
a basic place to meet. A dead hand hangs over the youth. The owners are waiting for the next boomtime
and don't want a bunch of black clad musicos as occupiers. What a 'fuck you' to the next generation.
