Gluaiseacht for Global Justice, the activist network that supports Climate Camp and other environmental and social justice campaigns in Ireland is holding a weekend of workshops and skill sharing for people who are interested in geting active for environmental and social justice. There will be a wide range of talks and workshops covering issues about carbon trading, media skills and direct action, water tax and much more.

At the moment we are experiencing a convergence of crisis. There has never been a more pressing need for an open, grassroots movement of ordinary people to challenge coporate power and a democratic deficit. The social and environmental cost of capitalism are externalised and socialised for all of humanity while wealth and power remains in the hands of a few.

Ecological collapse, runaway climate change and the reality of peak oil with not be resolved by corporate "greenwash", or freemarket "solutions" that lie at the core of ongoing daily injustices for the majority of the plantets peoples. Carbon trading, false techno fixes etc only further the erosion of genuine grassroots struggles demanding real structural changes needed to escape the worse effects of climate change and to organise our society upon the basis of participation, equality and social justice.

Topic include ( with more to be confirmed)
Food Sovereignty - who control our food supply and why its important we claim that back.

Climate Justice Action - Why the movement against climate change is more than "science" CO2 and fossil fuels, and update on the current state of this growing and diverse global movement, its main actions and its vision for another world

Water Tax - Give the governments expressed desire to bring in a water tax for all household, this workshop show that rather then water conservation, this is a step towards privatisation of our water supply, increasing private control and making profit for something we already pay for

Irelands Oil and Gas resources - So just exactly how much resources lies of our coast, and why is it exploited for private gain and profit rather than our health, education and transforming our society to a post carbon one.

Campus organising - How do you go about organising fellow students and workers on a university campus? We'll explore some of the issue and how to make your work effective

Climate infrastructural works - what are the major work going on or planned in the country that add massive to our CO2 output

Climate Change and the Corrib gas field. The controversial gas exploration and extraction of Corrib has been held back for years but the persisent and ongoing struggle of the local community and (inter)national support of the Shell to Sea campiagn, often in the face of police harrassment, unsympathetic mainstream media and murky activities of privatised security force group IRMS. This workshop will look at what the impact on climate change will be if Shell and co are successfull in extraction, and looks at argumentsts for keeping the gas in the ground

Climate Camp - learn how to get involved/support this years climate camp, following on from the success of last year camp

More workshops/skillshares TBC and details to follow

This event is free and open to all, the methodologies will seek to be as particapatory as possible. Food will be provided on a donation basis, and will Tea/Coffee etc.
This weekend will take place in Seomra Spraoi Autonomous Social Center, 10 Belvedre court, Dublinms to provide a space for creating/building/sustaining the processes that lead to movement building.
