ICTU protest as TDs arrive back to Dáil

Up to 1,500 workers (Irish Times estimate) marched from Anglo-Irish Bank to the Dáil at lunchtime today. For a lunchtime event with very little publicity it was a surprisingly good turnout. The ICTU leaders had only planned for a stunt to get themselves on the TV news, their original idea was that a couple of hundred union officials and activists would provide a backdrop for David Begg or Jack O'Connor delivering a soundbite.

When the ICTU leaders folded their banners and left, and most others headed back to work, about 400 of us remained to listen to speeches from the groups who had actually publicised the protest. Speaking to the rally, Alan MacSimoin of the Workers Solidarity Movement said

everyone across europe knew about this except the Irish who needed to march more than anyone. 80,000 marched in belgium. The overpaid union leaders have betrayed the workers yet again with what, for all we know, was probably a little "arrangement" to minimise dissent. Either that or total and utter incompetence. I'm not sure which is worse.

There was no good turnout at the protest due to mass complacency as far as im concerned, people think they are lucky to have their jobs, but i can tell you there will be cuts on state jobs,even..So if you want to be counted, get the numbers up and get out and protest, and vote your government out, stop this complacency!
I lost my job, because of a ce worker,i got pushed out of my full time job,I went to SIPTU and they were of no help as they are in with FAS.
There is no protection of our rights in the workplace ,and we are doing nothing about this,we need to get out and protest.

Only, when the workers and their families realise that Ictu and union leaders are using Larkin and Connolly to further their own greedy self interest, which includes kow towing to everything the government suggests which is anti worker, will there be any justice for the working man.

When these well paid charlatans are exposed, and rejected they'll be rewarded with equally well paid positions with the employers, for services rendered. Then... the far-sighted employers will bring forth the new so-called militants who at this present moment are being groomed to take over as leaders of the workers.

These Traitors will be easily recognized. Like Ictu and union leaders they demand salaries which have more in common with telephone numbers than a living wage. Shun these money grabbing bastards for what the are - Employers Lackeys.
