RNU Human Rights/Republican Prisoners Protest

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Thursday September 30, 2010 23:22author by Republican Network for Unity - Republican Network for Unity Report this post to the editors

On Saturday the 16th of October at 1pm, the Republican Network for Unity will be holding a Human Rights protest outside the GPO on O'Connell Street in Dublin.
poster_2.jpg

The purpose of this protest is to highlight and raise awareness of the continuing Human Rights abuse in Maghaberry Gaol, where republican prisoners are still being subjected to degrading strip searches and brutal beatings at the hands of a callous regime.

Although there seemed to be an agreement in place between the prisoners and the POA to end the ill-treatment of the prisoners, it has been revealed that the proposed agreement has been breached by the POA and once again republican prisoners are being brutally tortured by the prison staff in Maghaberry Gaol.

For far too long now republican prisoners have been subjected to living in harsh conditions manufactured by this callous regime. This regime is determent to break the spirit of republican prisoners by any means necessary. This cannot and must not be allowed to happen.

The prisoners in Maghaberry as well as their fellow comrades in Portlaoise are in a continuous battle against oppression and persecution. If history has taught the British and Irish states anything, it is that, republican prisoners will never bow down to the fabricated doctrine created by either of these bogus States that criminalises republicans. This unruly doctrine will always be met with fierce opposition whenever it is implicated towards Irish Republicans.

RNU wish to show solidarity with Republican prisoner's and to promote the rights of political prisoners & political status. This is the message we wish to convey on the day and we hope this protest can be the catalyst for further political activism for like-minded republican's in the 26 counties.

We encourage Republicans, Socialists and all those concerned about the denial of basic human rights to join us on Saturday 16th to protest against the criminalisation of republican POW's.

There will be independent placards available on the day for non-RNU members.

Any questions regarding the protest can be forwarded to RNUDublin@gmail.com

Let the prisoners voice be heard and stand with us on their behalf.
